A high school gym. =]

It's the eye sore of the stadium now for sure. It was built 10 years ago and it does it's job right now. It should be the next thing to go ascetically speaking, but the AD probably want more boxes and sweets for the income first.

new turf looks great under the light, just one so far.

Looks like ODU went for quality and not quantity. I don’t understand the criticism from some. Stadium looks like it’s coming along nicely. Congrats ODU!!

RE: ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
Anyone have outside pictures? We all have our own personal preferences on what makes a FB stadium. Some like 35 or 40k seats even if 1/3 to 1/2 goes unused 90% of the time. I like a nice looking stadium with all the updated bells and whistles. Enough restrooms where you wont miss over a couple plays to go take a leak. Concessions all around the stadium and enough to have a good selections. The backed bench seats are a huge plus (Wish Western had them).

I hate stadiums where you walk up to them and you see everything underneath. Especially when it's an eyesore and even worse if you see something that looks like a erector set. I'm a big believer you build to your fanbase and never put 10 to 15k extra seats just to be adding them. Not even if you fill those extra seats once every 2 years. It hurts season tickets sales when you know on game day you can walk up and get a good seat. And a lot of schools sell a ton of tickets at huge huge discounts just to fill those seats

Hope I get to make the ODU trip this season and see the stadium

Having 40k isn't always great if you build it cheap. Some say 20k is high schoolish. Well to be honest I've seen better built high school FB stadiums . I'm sure I'm going to catch some feedback on this but since the age of 17 I've built things and doing it correct and nice has been my #1 rule. So like I said...personal preference

To also put in perspective, if you’re asking me whether I would trade stadium situations with Marshall, the answer is a resounding NO!...We’ve been given a somewhat blank slate with which to build a first class facility...that thing at Marshall looks like a ‘70s carnival ride.

ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
Great post. I'm in the same camp as you. When I was at VT game I was in awe of the size walking up to Lane stadium. Felt like walking into a giant Roman stadium to watch battle. But when you take a second to look at details it's a dirty concrete stadium underneath. Their really isn't much to these giant bleachers.

The technology at our disposal today vs just 20 years ago is amazing. The program that Populous wrote that builds the bowl size, depth, angles, etc that designs the best site lines for all, sound, all that didn't exist. More attention to flow and experience. I think everyone will have a really nice experience, despite it not being giant to start.

I haven't visited the stadium in a while so all I have is stuff you can find online. But i hope they put up the giant banners seen in renders to help the curb appeal if you will.

https://www.newodustadium.com/

Go to gallery. The west side [with press boxes] renders have those banners helping to mask some of the underbelly. It's not looking exactly like this, the lights didn't end up like those, but its darn close.

RE: ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
LOL....trust me. Marshall would never trade stadiums with ODU or WKU either. High school stadiums.

Having said that, I sometimes wish we would tear out the cheap upper end zone addition we put on back circa 2000ish. We did that so we could join the original CUSA. Would like to see us add some luxury end zone suites to that section seeing as how we have a multiple year waiting list for luxury boxes.

Then we can always add the upper deck on the East side of our stadium if we needed to.

I agree Marshall needs to redue the endzone seating as it is an eye sore, I wish we would build suites. As for stadium sizes I'd much rather have our stadium than unc Charlotte, ODU or WKU. You can have a nice new stadium but size does matter. I hate going to college games with a high school experience/atmosphere. That's the just the truth from almost anyone.

RE: ODU'S NEW STADIUM - COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
I think some people here would prefer that ODU play down the road at Norfolk State's stadium.

It's REALLY like an HS stadium, but it seats 30K.

I think if there's a definite need to expand to 30, ODU will get there. My guess is that won't happen until a) ODU is dominating CUSA, b) CUSA catches up with the AAC and everyone gets games against T25/ARV teams, or c) ODU joins the AAC themselves.

For my money, I'd rather see a largely filled stadium with all the bells and whistles, even at the pearl-clutching capacity of 22K, than a 2/3rds filled HS stadium on steroids.

Norfolk stadium is high schoolish because of the track and the seating being chopped up in to sections.

as well as exposed underbelly and a stretched sea of bleachers that make it look like a drag strip rather than a FB stadium. I wish ODU could've went with concrete but the water table and raising sea levels near the campus make it a bad decision from construction stand point. In the end i like the bench backs, chair backs, ample space(so that people moving around doesn't jab you in your face and knees), more than enough amenities like good wifi, upgraded sound, lighting and not to forget variety of concession stands will make it a good place to be on a game day. Don't care how big it is if its just a bleacher after another. We will eventually get to 30k+ anyway.

I think the ODU stadium looks pretty sweet. From an outside perspective

Then we don’t have an issue, ‘cause we certainly wouldn’t want your stadium either. No way ODU would want a stadium that doubles as a regional stock-car speedway.

ODU fans don't want to try and compare football stadiums. 40k > 22k all day long.

We literally average more than your stadium holds.

Yeah, I dont get the venom either. We will be filling that stadium over the next decade or so for top echelon g5 and P5 teams. We will need the seats.

Your boy is the source of the venom. Nobody started measuring dicks till he kept repeating how much bigger his, or hers, is ad nauseam all over the forums.

Now it's just fun to pick at it.

Fair enough. He might not have all of the best tact in the world, but he’s correct more often than not. This particular debate is opinion, so there is no right or wrong.

Ya. I'm poking fun with the utmost respect for the Marshall program, it's purely directed at this poster for fun, not Marshall.

But, he is completely correct. 40k is greater than 22k.
