I just wonder if it can be challenged in court with any success or not. It would be a drawn out affair which negates the effect unless a judge granted a temporary order allowing someone to play immediately.
If this is overturned (as I believe it should be) and Hudson is granted the waiver, doesn't this also suggest the NCAA should revisit their existing procedure going forward?
First, it seems a violation of both student privacy and health care laws to have an illness of any kind made public. Particularly with some mental health issues that are stigmatized to begin with. And then shouldn't this sort of waiver request require a confidential referral to a psychiatrist or psychologist to confirm a player's self-diagnosis before becoming the basis for any decision?
A public disclosure such as this could follow a student athlete for a long time--even (unfairly) jeopardizing future employment opportunities. If the NCAA is there for the student athlete, it seems it is failing miserably in such cases.
Hudson made it public, not the institution...
True, it appears Hudson did in this case.
Before doing so, did he feel fearful of raising the issue with the coaching staff and risking his position on the team or his scholarship if he sought treatment of a mental or emotional problem? I guess we'll never know.
But Harbaugh's remarks were flippant and muddied the waters. Had the coach said simply, "... out of respect for student privacy I will not comment on the particulars of this case," and left it at that he would have avoided throwing gasoline on a smoldering fire. Harbaugh's callous response was criticized for good reason. This didn't end well for him. I don't think his days in Ann Arbor will either.

I wish a lawyer would step up pro bono and sue the NCAA as they seem to be inconsistent in rulings.

RE: Jim Harbaugh on James Hudson
The NCAA is a joke...SEC would love for Tennessee to get back to winning...2/4 Michigan transfers were ruled eligible.
Quote:We finally have an answer. Volquest has learned on Tuesday afternoon that Aubrey Solomon will be able to help Tennessee’s inexperienced defensive line in 2019 after getting cleared for immediate eligibility by the NCAA.
The former 5-star Michigan transfer had his waiver granted by the NCAA and will likely start for the Vols against Georgia State next weekend.
