So I just can't see how the numbers work unless like some have indicated they are pulling the plug on football.
Of course they are pulling the plug on football. They simply cannot admit that in public — yet.

BYU obviously ups our value tremendously. Would ESPN renegotiate? Could we get it to $10M per school per year? I’m all-in on BYU.

My thoughts:

- UConn football will be FCS by 2025 if not sooner

- Do not give an inch to BYU on preferred treatment. The AAC has brands that are already more valuable than BYU and have achieved far more for the conference, they get the same deal as everyone or nothing.

You take BYU if you can get them. That’s a situation were the league comes out unequivocally stronger regardless of the basketball replacement. And BYU would be the networks top G5 choice every year for the NY6.

New Orleans is East of Memphis so move Tulane East.

UCF USF Temple Cincy Tulane ECU

BYU Houston Memphis Navy Tulsa SMU

Air Force to the AAC football only and olympic sports to the WAC (AAC can grab up VCU too if they like)

UTEP to the MWC to replace Air Force

UConn to CUSA as a football only

everyone walks away happy-ish

depends...if BYU upped our per team payout to say, 10M per team, then yeah, you get BYU in here and let them keep whatever they want from BYUtv etc.

I'm fine with the total value going up so long as the distribution is equal. And yea, they can obviously reap the benefits of whatever BYUTv makes (it really can't be much).

What we can't have is them pushing for some nonsense Boise type deal.

heck if ESPN said BYU to the AAC but BYU will get 11M and everybody else gets 8M, I'd say yes in a second. If it takes a sweetheart deal, you make it.

BYU here could open the door down the road to better bowls, etc.

It would be a significant enough prestige increase, even with UCONN bball out that you have to make it happen if you can.

100% in agreement on BYU... not sure we get $10M with just BYU Football, but I believe we deserve $12M, but we won't get that either.

Im good with BYU being a 'little Texas' in the AAC...if they need fuss and feathers and some special deals to woo them, you do it.

I'm good with adding BYU but it would make the football divisions tricky.

Would Navy be cool with being in the East division?

You can't really expect BYU to play in the East when they'd be the western most school in the conference by a long shot.

(06-24-2019 01:27 PM)BullsFanInTX Wrote:  Plus some serious smackdowns of UConn from unnamed AAC sources, including calling them "delusional".

https://watchstadium.com/news/how-uconns...6-24-2019/

As far as UConn’s chances to remain a football-only member in the American, one source summed it up this way: “They are delusional.”

Multiple sources said UConn had been told a football-only membership was not possible if it left for the Big East.

“We can’t believe UConn even thought we would consider (allowing UConn a football-only membership), and frankly thought that was made clear to them long ago every time a rumor popped up about them and the Big East,” a source said.

So UConn’s most likely – perhaps only – option at the FBS level is as an independent. That would be tough financially and schedule-wise; good luck getting teams to visit East Hartford, Conn., in late October or November.

FBS independents Army and BYU are the most likely candidates for the American’s 12th team, multiple sources said. “Both have many caveats,” a source said. It’s quite possible neither school wants to join, but as attractive as they are to the American, there are some concerns.

So the American has to make a decision in the next several months: stay at 11 or get back to 12?

“Is 11 better? With fewer pieces of the pie there is more revenue for the 11 schools to split than 12. Plus there’s no perfect or obvious choice as our 12th member.”

Another source admitted that “other than the service academies and perhaps BYU, I can’t see anyone rising up that makes it better to add than to stay pat at 11.

“I guess,” he said laughing, “we sound like the Big 12 when it decided not to expand a few years ago.”

Article is spot on. BYU, Army, or maybe AF. That’s it or stay at 11.

Don’t even think about any other candidates from lower leagues.

This should be the agreement. The AAC members are getting around $7 million each. Any increase that BYU adds they keep. Completely waive the entry fee. We stay revenue neutral and we gain a better fb program. They also get cfp revenue share and ny6 access potential.

Just like in the job market, some programs are just more valuable. We want them let them take the extra funds they bring in.

I love the fact that the article compared us to the Big 12 during their "should we or shouldn't we expand?" fiasco.

Hilarious.

thought the same thing

Aresco needs to send out invites to Ga. State, UAB, Old Dominion, So Miss etc. and have them come do a song and dance and then tell them all no.

Won't be shocked if BYU comes on board as a scheduling hedge (already tried to detail it in the "stay at 11" thread). If we stay at 11 with 2 divisions, it's impossible to create a schedule of just AAC teams that doesn't result in two East teams having to do a home/home in a single year. But if we align with BYU for 2 East games every year that count as AAC games for those 2 teams, we might have BYU join into our bowl coalition (which we know they need).

I suppose we could do the same with Army, too.
