AOC Refuses Invite To Visit Concentration Camps With Holocaust Survivor
She is 01-wingedeagle

Quote:A Holocaust commemoration group on Friday invited Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to tour the Nazi death camp Auschwitz with a 93-year-old survivor.

Jonny Daniels, the founder of From the Depths, wrote the open invitation to the progressive freshman asking her to participate in the educational tour during her summer recess from Congress.

From the Depths president Edward Mosberg, a Holocaust survivor, would travel with her for the tour, which includes visits to the Auschwitz-Birkenau, Mauthausen and Majdanek concentration camps.

More than 20 members of Congress from both political parties have participated on the tour that is specifically designed for legislators, according to the group.

"The opportunity you will have of visiting the German Nazi Concentration Camps along with Mr. Mosberg, a 93 year old survivor of history's most brutal genocidal regime, will enable you to become a witness of a witness, something that our generation will sadly be the last to do, as result of the fact that the survivors are passing away at an ever increasing rate," Daniels wrote in the invitation.

Mosberg is a Polish-born real estate developer in New Jersey who survived several Nazi camps, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

Last month, he was awarded the Order of Merit, his country's highest civilian distinction, from Polish President Andrzej Duda for his work as a philanthropist and educator.

The offer comes after Ocasio-Cortez faced fierce backlash from Republicans and some Democrats for comparing the Trump administration's migrant detention centers along the U.S.-Mexico border with Nazi-era concentration camps throughout Europe, where millions of Jews were murdered.

Daniels wrote that the organization did not believe her comments were made "out of spite or ill faith" but rather were "misguided comments" made from lack of proper knowledge about the Holocaust.

"We await your response and look forward to learning together with you about this painful history," Daniels concluded.

Quote:On Sunday, Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declined an invitation from a Holocaust remembrance group to visit Nazi concentration camps with a Holocaust survivor, suggesting that it was part of a "far-right" scheme designed for "political gain."

Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks in response to a tweet from Rep. Steve King (R-IA), who was kicked off his congressional committees by Republican leaders after remarks he made about white nationalism.

In a tweet tagging Ocasio-Cortez and linking to a report from The Hill, King encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to accept the invite from the Holocaust remembrance group.

King wrote: ".@AOC I went to Auschwitz & Birkenau with Eddie Mausberg & Jonny Daniels with In the Depths. I went with a deep understanding of the Shoah and had a profound personal experience. Please accept their offer."

Ocasio-Cortez responded by saying she was rejecting the offer as she believed it was part of how "the far-right manipulates these moments for political gain."

Ocasio-Cortez wrote: "The last time you went on this trip it was reported that you also met w/ fringe Austrian neo-Nazi groups to talk shop. So I’m going to have to decline your invite. But thank you for revealing to all how transparently the far-right manipulates these moments for political gain."

It's important to note that King was not inviting her to visit the Nazi concentration camps with him but rather was encouraging her to accept the offer from the Holocaust remembrance group. The article from The Hill that King included in his tweet stated:

A Holocaust commemoration group on Friday invited Rep.

"We at From The Depths, have brought over 100 international parliamentarians to visit the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination camps, parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, including over 20 Representatives of the United States Congress, both Republicans and Democrats alike," Daniels wrote in the invitation to Ocasio-Cortez. "From The Depths is the only foundation dealing with Holocaust memory, memorial and education run entirely by millennials, we feel that this would be great opportunity for you to learn more about this horrendous past, and understand how it impacts lives and education until today."

"In the invitation, Daniels wrote: "The opportunity you will have of visiting the German Nazi Concentration Camps along with Mr. Mosberg, a 93 year old survivor of history's most brutal genocidal regime, will enable you to become a witness of a witness, something that our generation will sadly be the last to do, as result of the fact that the survivors are passing away at an ever increasing rate," Daniels concluded. "We await your response and look forward to learning together with you about this painful history."

Cortez blames Republicans for trying to politicize concentration camps when she tried to politicize concentration camps. Talk about being stuck on stupid.

She even digs ditches in circles. What a winner.

Anytime she’s caught in some BS (which is all the time) she blames “far right” conspiracies to bring her down. Lol.

She dumb as a rock.

She should go visit a concentration camp, if she is an honest and thoughtful person (I know, that's a scretch).

Anyone who will be respectful and serious should visit one if they get the opportunity. I have, and it was one of the most moving amd eye-opening life experiences I have ever had.

That's more than a stretch.

Well, this may be a good thing. If AOC actually had a clue about what she talks about she might actually be dangerous. As of now, she's only a laughing stock.

Not only that but making comparisons to Concentration Camps trivializes people who were really prisoners of one in WW2. If I were Jewish, I couldn't think of a bigger slap to the face. Oh, and one more point. This takes political rhetoric to a new unforeseen low.

AOC is nothing but mouth, and dumb, stupid mouth at that. Liberals everywhere should be proud of her being among their elected mouth pieces since she fits in so well among the rest of them (Pelosi, Schumer, Warren, Biden, Beto, Sanders, etc.). What a complete bunch of crazed individuals. 07-coffee3

I read an article the other day that stated AOC was actually correct per academics. The article referenced how concentration camps pre-date the Holocaust and her terminology was correct and shouldn't be offensive. That said, the left will cling to this while defending the NBA for banning the word owner because of it's racist connotations...so who can take any of this **** serious anymore

AOC was deliberately and intentionally using the term to conjure up the Holocaust. That is what is offensive about her comments.

The term concentration camp typically connotes places where people are rounded up and interned, like the Japanese-Americans in 1942. That's what concentration means. You concentrate them forcefully. At they border, they are not rounded up, they come freely. That is a significant difference. I doubt any Jew went to Dachau voluntarily on his or her own.

Her decline to visit is as despicable as her comments. She is truly a vile, ignorant young woman.

RE: AOC Refuses Invite To Visit Concentration Camps With Holocaust Survivor
Quote:WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum unequivocally rejects efforts to create analogies between the Holocaust and other events, whether historical or contemporary. That position has repeatedly and unambiguously been made clear in the Museum’s official statement on the matter – a statement that is reiterated and reaffirmed now. The link to the Museum’s statement is here.

The Museum further reiterates that a statement ascribed to a Museum staff historian regarding recent attempts to analogize the situation on the United States southern border to concentration camps in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s does not reflect the position of the Museum.

The Museum deeply regrets any offense to Holocaust survivors and others that may have been engendered by any statement ascribed to a Museum historian in a personal capacity.

Exactly! A lot of people want to parse out the various semantics and meaning of the words "concentration camps" but almost everyone on the left that tried to defend this ignorance forgets she wrote "Never Again" on the bottom of the tweet as a direct reference to the Holocaust.

They don't forget they simply ignore because those two words destroy their entire premise. Hence, we get people arguing semantics. That, along with name calling, is a sign they have lost the debate.
