And here I was thinking UConn to the BE was a hoax
I didn't even bother to click on either thread. You can close or merge but I can't be the only one who thought this was typical realignment BS.

Definitely thought the website was clickbait because no way would an obscure site break the biggest realignment story in 5 years before all the insiders.

It's the biggest of the realignment hoax contest threads. I've been planning this one for weeks. I've worked on it 24/7. So hard, in fact, that in convincing people to help me spread the rumor I ended up helping convince UCONN to actually do it.

I had posted previously that I understood the logic if UConn went Big East. Men's and women's hoops are the cash producers and the perception seems that both would recapture some flagging support and donations.
But I never thought the UConn administration had the stones to make a move that boiled down to the bones a rejection of the investment in football, ie. an admission that football isn't determining the future of UConn.

Never thought it would happen as well. IMHO UConn situation is unique and the miscues on build a new stadium over 40 miles from campus. Then a few bad coaches can play a world of hurt and UConn was spending at P5 levels. UMass is no showcase as we have made mistakes, but we have been programmatic. We are making improvements that follow major donation as the IPF and HD scoreboards, much like ODU with their large donation for rebuild.

RE: And here I was thinking UConn to the BE was a hoax
UConn's biggest flaws in football were masked by staying in a legit league with steady opposition and good TV. They could tread water without the program totally collapsing (further). Now they have all of the hurdles UMass does with none of the opportunity to prepare for them.
I'm a transplant to New England so I want both of those programs to do well and also love the dynamic of the AAC, but honestly my main worry is just what they've sacrificed to get back inside the Garden.
Y'all could've just applied for the Preseason NIT or something like a normal school.

I did not see it coming. I thought the unhappiness with the loss of the T3 rights created some hope, but only a sliver.

Wait......are you talking about the OBE or the AAC, because...UConn football has totally collapsed. They just averaged 10k fans and have two years of ruinous financial reporting ahead of them from last season and this coming season. The AAC may not have caused this, but being in the conference did nothing to prevent it either.

But then the Big East Football Conference broke up in 2011-13, and UConn was no longer in a legit league with steady opposition and good TV. And sure enough, 3-9 2-10 6-7 3-9 3-9 1-11.
I think they can go 3-9 as an independent most years.

Regardless of his rooting interests, he is right. The P6 is a hoax designed to excite schools in that conference.
There is no P6 as evidenced by the money and bowl affiliations.

Most teams definitely get way worse when their standard of competition falls as precipitously as I'm sure you think it did

If the program is relying on their inherent strengths, your sarcasm is appropriate. If the main assets of the program are conference affiliation and who you rub shoulders with, then we see UConn's trajectory. Without Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia propping up UConn as a major college football program--5 seasons out of 6 with 9 losses.
I'm saying that the UConn football apocalypse you're predicting already happened, on the scoreboard and in the stands.
(Note: they're not going to win more than 3 games as an independent more than once every 5 years, either.)
