RE: AAC stays at 11?
I doubt they add anyone not on the final Big Twelve expansion list .
I believe UNM, CSU, Air Force and Rice were the non AAC schools on the list.
Air force is the easiest they have sports in Eastern conferences as well.
They have close by good options in Summit fixes baseball travel would be fine. they would be more competitive. The Dakota four and Denver are strong academic schools.
Big Sky would also be an option with some good schools .

Add three
Then six in Central time zone
Five in Eastern time zone
Three in mountain time zone
Gives ESPN a lot of options

RE: AAC stays at 11?
WCC have no interests in MWC schools. Big West have no interests in adding MCW California schools. WAC would only accept MWC schools which would include football. Summit League football members would be interested in forming a new FBS all sports conference or no deal. Southland is full. There is no place for MWC to park their sports.

AAC are looking for schools that they are not already in states that they are already in. Sorry, that rules out all of Texas schools.

The pecking orders:
Wichita State to add football which I doubt.
ODU as the frontrunner
Southern Mississippi
UMass.
Western Kentucky
UAB
Georgia State or Georgia Southern, Southern have the football cred.
Marshall
Northern Illinois
Indiana State
Missouri State
NDSU
South Dakota State
Delaware
Than non-football like VCU, Dayton and Belmont.

RE: AAC stays at 11?
The American is trending southwest with the HQ and tourney in Texas.

IF, and that's a HUGE IF, the AAC lands Army, I could see St. Louis being invited as a full member. That would give the conference a major city in which they could plant a flag.

A western division with Army, Navy, Tulane, Houston, SMU, and Tulsa would be manageable for the academies. It would be quite wonky to play a conference game after the CCG though. Like what if they were both undefeated in conference, who goes? Army will NOT play in a division with the Florida teams.

I just don't see Army wanting to subject the troops to playing future professional athletes week in and week out. Hell, didn't play a game AT Yale recently?

With AAC $$$, they could become a force in the American. IMHO, North Texas will need to start baseball if they want to move up.

This will upset some C-USA fans that like to harp on us needing to add a baseball program.....

North Texas has the resources to add baseball, we have just placed other infrastructure projects ahead of baseball (new track/soccer stadium, new indoor practice facility, athletic center expansion,...). We could begin building a new ballpark and field a team by 2020 if we had to.

Regardless of what happens with the AAC, North Texas is really committed to improving their athletics and becoming more relevant in the Dallas/Fort Worth region and on the national level.

North Texas checks every box as far as what the AAC would be looking for...

Large state university- 38,000 students, Tier 1 highest research university
Large alumni base- 380,000 alums
Athletic spending- $36 million (new numbers should be released in a few days)
Coaches salaries- North Texas already pays within the range of some AAC programs
Facilities- Apogee Stadium- 30,850 capacity, New soccer/track stadium (opened in 2018), new indoor football practice facility (opening in 2019)
Success- 3 straight bowl appearances, & 4 bowls in the last 6 season, plus back to back 20 win basketball seasons
Recruiting- According to 247 sports, North Texas currently has the highest ranked G5 class for 2020.

I would think SMU, and Houston would want North Texas in the AAC. They know how many fans we bring to games, and they know our athletics will only continue to improve.

Why would SMU and Houston want North Texas or any other Texas school for that matter? That’s like saying TCU wants SMU or Houston in the Big XII. Doesn’t make any sense. There’s nothing to gain especially for SMU to accept UNT is on their level. Tulsa already plays in DFW so they don’t need UNT for exposure and that would be a third no vote. UTSA might have a better chance than UNT (SMU), Rice (Houston) and UTEP (too far away, MWC is where they belong) and even then UTSA has many obstacles but at least they deliver a new market. It looks like the AAC likes having only two schools in Texas and Florida and they’ll keep it that way.

At the end I’m sure they’ll settle for either Army or Old Dominion and perhaps UAB might get a look. The AAC doesn’t need to add a basketball school if Army decides to join, they can stay at 11 (like the MWC) and play a round robin schedule.

We kept them out of the SWC then CUSA and now the AAC blah blah blah

No truth in it but it does warm me up inside though

Schools Where AAC Could Turn To

There are a lot of cons for schools mentioned, but ODU have more pros than cons.

I completely forgot SMU was in the AAC when I first posted. The AAC's private schools are invisible.

If the AAC wants football power, texas is where it's at

I also think Old Dominion is a good consensus pick, there seems to be support on the board for them

Even though this was the first realignment transaction in eons DavidSt didn’t call ahead of time, it shows the national reputation capital he’s built-up that conferences are hiring him as a consultant.

North Texas is already better than a lot of AAC programs. SMU is overrated and Tulane is awful

Neither really have much business being on the AAC short list. Lets keep in mind--the goal is to come as close to replacing UConn as possible. Neither UAB or ODU is even remotely comparable to UConn.

RE: AAC stays at 11?
UAB is the only option.

BYU -- would laugh at Aresco. Would have a better shot at Notre Dame.
Any Mountain West school would also laugh.
Army -- negative. Would politely tell them to F Off.

So you're looking at CUSA.

UAB's rebuilt a football program from scratch, and already exceeded everyone else in the conference. Birmingham is the number one market for college football, and it ain't even close. They'll DEFINITELY watch UAB in the American. Way more than people in New England watched UConn. And UAB would CRUSH UConn on the gridiron. Invested in brand new facilities, just destroys everyone else on the "list" for replacements.

It will be UAB .... if it's anybody.

I also think it's more than likely to be UAB as a full time member before any split FB/BB combo.

UAB
ODU
USM

In that order of Full Time members.

However, if the decision isn't made this year and UAB ***** the bed like USM did before the AAC creation then kiss that possibility goodbye.

UAB won't get waivers for a squad full of 25 year olds for too long.
