Does Big East go to 12?
To me 12 is a perfect number for College basketball Conferences. Does the Big East go to 12 and who do you think it should be?

To me the following teams would be good choices:

VCU
Dayton
Davidson
George Mason
Loyola - Chicago

RE: Does Big East go to 12?
Why is 12 the perfect number? 11 lets them do a full 20 game round robin

George Mason and Loyola wouldn’t be in contention. It would come down to VCU, Davidson, Dayton, or Saint Louis.

Dayton just fits Big East in every fashion. Smaller market, but it’s consistently in the top 5 for ratings in the sport. Xavier/Dayton could be an iconic Big East rivalry.

Saint Louis could be a good add if the city supported basketball anywhere near as well as it supports hockey.

No. The want to have a round robin and 11 gives 20 conferences games as the rest of the conferences are moving to.

I'd love to see them take Dayton but they are going to stop at 11

I understand the love for round robin but extra tournament units would serve them well. Get two consistent tournament teams, benefits the conference. Move the Big East up to 6-7 team average for NCAA Tournaments. I think VCU, Dayton or Davidson fits that bill. I imagine Fox Sports would make it worth their while. Then again, they may stay at 12. But this provides Big East to solidify there Basket Power Conferences. AAC and Big East could decimate the A10 dependent on there actions.

No need to move past eleven for now. There is no available member that provides enough value to eliminate the round robin - which holds significant value in itself.

Why would you assume there would be more tournament units? Or that any imagined additional units would increase the number of units per league member? And why would schools that aren't consistently getting bids now where they are start getting them in a conference where wins would be presumably harder to come by?

11 is fine for non football conferences. ACC worked very well at 9 for years. 11 will be similar since 20 conference games is the new norm

RE: Does Big East go to 12?
After reviewing. Since 2009 VCU has missed the tournament only twice, that would be the only choice if going to 12. UConn in the same time period, UCONN missed the tournament SIX times. Seems like VCU would actually be a safer choice based upon appearance and consistency. Granted UCONN has two national championships in that time period but VCU does have 1 final four appearance.

I think the Big East missing out on VCU would be a huge mistake. No assurance a team will make it every year but VCU appears to be a solid choice. Still in the Big East footprint. They actually be a great travel partner with Gtown.

VCU has done that with 4 different coaches and losing the majority of 3 recruiting classes. Truly a program, plus a State school with 38,000 students/employees and a 1.8 Billion endowment. Not to mention a $2 Million/year school media rights deal running until 2025.

Big East is almost certainly staying at 11 for the immediate future. It's the number that makes the most sense (and I've said that back when it looked like it'd be someone other than UConn filling that spot).

I doubt the Big East just opens the door wide for someone else they could have already had just because now they finally got one of their chasers with UConn. Have to still believe their dream twelfth team is Gonzaga.

Honestly, if the Big East moves to twelve and taps someone from the A10 to round out the number, it looks just like the Big Ten taking Rutgers to get to fourteen. VCU and Dayton would be fine adds, don’t get me wrong, but, why now?

The Big Ten didn't take Rutgers simply to get to 14. It was a calculated move to get into the greater NYC market. Whether they accomplished that with Rutgers is debatable, but it wasn't just about number of schools in the conference.

I still say Gonzaga should just move their university to the east coast. 03-wink

The BE aren’t going to add a twelfth team. They have every reason not to do so which is why they won’t.
