BYU is in the enviable situation of needing the AAC to make the case to them why they should join, not the other way around.
Uhhhhh not really. BYU is in no man's land at the moment as an Indy. Totally irrelevant. No access to NY6 bowl game, no conference title to play for. The minute they lose 1 game their season is over since the Playoffs, in theory, is the only thing they have to play for every single year.
They need a conference much more than the AAC needs BYU. If the AAC simply does nothing, the conference is as strong in football as it was before and everyone makes more money.
If BYU does nothing, they remain totally irrelevant.

BYU has a sweetheart TV deal and has teams lined up to schedule them. I'm not sure they care enough about the playoffs or NY6 bowl access to give up their control and money (they'd take a pay cut to join the AAC).
The closest conference game is Tulsa, and that wouldn't get the faithful excited in Provo. Why would they want to join a majority east coast league for less money?
BYU is willing to wait it out to see what happens to the Big 12. The AAC holds no allure for them or they would already be members.

lol let me help you with something - the Big 12, who are run by southern Baptists at schools in Texas, are NEVER going to invite BYU and be dictated to by Mormons. That's just a fact. If it weren't true then BYU would be in the Big 12 already.
Also you pushed a bit of fake news here. BYU makes $850K from ESPN on every home game. That only applies to 5 games per year since they are required to put 1 game on BYUTv. That means $4.25M from ESPN which is far less than the $7M ESPN will be paying to AAC members.
If BYU is content with having their own ESPN deal for less money and scheduling random teams with nothing to play for, then sure, staying put makes total sense. Otherwise.....
