I agree. I like ODU. Stadium is looking good but need to finish expansion by getting rid of old end zone bleacher seating.

They are building a brand new stadium. It will only seat 20,000 initially. Expandable to 22,000.

That’s not right. We’ll have 22,480 official capacity this season. The plans for expansion seem fluid at this point based on funds with more luxury seating seeming to be the priority. A conference change would certainly expedite the process. I don’t know what max capacity would look like, I’m guessing around 30k with the current footprint.

IMO, if Army isn’t attainable, ODU or UAB would be the best add. Both bring useful recruiting territory. Both bring a new/renovated stadium with UAB’s reaching 50k seats. ODU brings AAC budget capability and UAB has a shared history with AAC schools. If Army says no, ODU or UAB would grow into a quality AAC member nicely.

ODU would have to be an at-large caliber team to be top 5 in basketball, very rarely happening. Would not be top 5 in baseball. Would be fortunate to finish top 5 in either division in football.

Correct, that is what I was talking about. Your new 22K stadium looks great. However, the holdover endzone bleachers look terrtible (just being honest). Complete the horseshoe and get it up to 30K.

Last year USA Today released their athletic budget spreadsheet on June 28th. We may be only days from the new numbers coming out. I'm sure the leadership in the AAC will be comparing those numbers against the last set to see which programs are growing in the MWC, and possibly C-USA.

Ya. Would a been 3rd in record but our NET would have put us in 3rd from last. Still 150 spots higher than the bottom of the league... We'd fit in basketball wise with the aac much better than ECU. Baseball, we don't suck but aren't great. We had flashes last season and flirted with votes if I recall early on. Can't seem to get over that one and done in the ncaa. Football, no need to chat that up or down. Still figuring things out. But if you visit for our game I'd love to get feedback on the experience in our new digs.

ODU can't even sell out their 20k seat stadium anymore. Newness has worn off and only 1 winning season in FBS.

ODU is also almost 63% subsidized and have to get that down to 55% subsidized to be in compliance with Virginia law.

So Miss and Marshall are the only two that are in same range as the AAC teams in terms of percentage of budget being subsidized. Marshall is only 48% subsidized and So Miss is only 36% subsidized. Most of the AAC teams are in the 40-49% range.

Yup, 10 years straight and we finally stopped selling it out last season after a craptastic year. It happens. I'm glad we finally did to be honest. I think it'll do us good now that we had to redo our season tix from the Cox legislation. Before any business could donate 1k bucks and buy 8 season tickets on the cheap. It left a lot of holes in the stadium so even the sell outs didn't look like one. This year that isn't the case with the new stadium and seat membership fee's that aren't tax deductible.

Also, we're below 55% and shrinking and still 10 mil above anyone in CUSA right? Raised 34.5 mil in less than 2 years. We raise 16.1 million in 2018. UCF raised 17 million with all their success. Thanks for bringing that up, I forgot about that.

Marshall wouldn’t have sold out our tiny stadium in two of your six home games last year. We’re in compliance and yes we get more institutional money than Marshall as well as self produce more money. Percentages don’t spend, dollars do.

No arguments from the fan base about the NEZ being an eyesore but the boxes bring the revenue so that’s what will likely come next.

BYU is in a contact year, they are actively negotiating bowl and tv contacts with ESPN this off season.

How crazy is that? That’s a hell of a coincidence. ESPN holds BYUs fate. BYU football has been down... it might just be perfect timing.

G4 actually implies that there's a Power 6.

Power """"""""6""""""

We all want to improve our school's station in the college football landscape but let's not delude ourselves by thinking that the AAC is on par with the P5. It is just the best place a G5 school can be right now.

Anyway, I'll bite.

Name one Group of 5 (five) school with more football history than Southern Miss (not counting service academies). I'll wait.

That's something I've always felt was kind of a negative. You travel to campuses like ECU and UNC or UVA and the universities are kind of why the towns are there or they're so intertwined in history with football and tailgating just about every parking lot is some pod of great tailgating and everyone walks for a mile or more. At ODU we dont have that luxury. At least no organically. It'll have to be manufactured. Right now we probably don't need much more space for it, especially with the city limit of 4 hours to tailgate. That's a Norfolk thing.
