OMG!!!! Now I know you're trolling. UConn football is a trash heap that's about to go nuclear. Damn, you could have written anything and possibly made sense but this, 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Wins and losses come and go. UConn has the biggest budget in the conference. They are the cornerstone of the AAC.

Good points. But will the AAC be patient? Aresco seems to be quite emotional and his example has made the AAC an emotional, chip on shoulder conference.

They may not react rationally.

Quo, this may come as a surprise to you, but UConn leaving the AAC with what the last few seasons has been tepid basketball and a dumpster fire of football is an unexpected gift to the AAC and apparently ESPN sees it that way since it won't affect their current contract so the pie just got bigger for everyone else with about 9/11ths of a million in exit fees and one less share of the pie. Aresco and the conference have no reason to worry. They'll play Beverly Hillbillies and stand on the porch and wave bye. But they won't say, "Ya'll come back now, hear!"

Seems obvious UCONN will make more $$ in the Big East then by remaining in the AAC

Not really all that obvious. Its clear UConn is gambling a predicted increase in basketball ticket sales and a decrease in travel costs will more than make up the difference in media/CFP/Bowl money available in the AAC. Even assuming thats true, the 10 million dollar exit fee (and its only that low if they give a 27 month notice--which they have not) would seem to put any break even point more than a few years away. I think this is more about keeping their fans happy. As a Houston fan---I absolutely understand the burning desire of a fan base to get back to playing the teams that matter to them.

Frankly, I thought anything close to the break even point (including the exit fee) for the AAC TV deal would be enough to make the move financially unattractive. I thought as little as 3-4 million a team would probably keep UConn in the AAC. At 7 millon---I figured there was zero doubt they would stay. I vastly underestimated the desire to get back to their old rivals. This move is not financial. This is about keeping the majority of their fans happy. I realize now that the AAC probably had to hit a huge double digit 10+ million a team home run TV deal to keep UConn around. I clearly misread the tea leaves on this one.

The New AAC media deal was a bad deal for Uconn

""Some also noted how the AAC's new television deal with ESPN left UConn as a clear loser as it made Huskies games harder to watch for fans, which limits the exposure to potential recruits as well.""

They were 0-11 last year and an SOS anchor. Dumping them is not pride. Its addition though subtraction for every schedule in the league. They would also soak up full share of football earnings plus a full share of CFP/bowl split. You are absolutely right that UConn is a huge loss for AAC basketball prestige---but football? Not so much.

Wins and losses mean little. UCF was 0-12 three years ago.

Fundamentally, UConn is the AAC's best school. Would be cutting off nose to spite face to make their football leave.

Dumping UConn football is the only way for the AAC to realize any upside to the exit. No reason this cant end up being a big win for UConn as well as an opportunity for the AAC to improve their football league.

USF has made great strides as an institution, but we are still a considerable distance behind UConn. That is just how it is.

yeah---thats basically BS. Here is the real issue. Their football is terrible and not getting better. They are losing 40 million a year. And then there is this line from the article you just posted a link to---

According to the Hartford Courant's Mike Anthony, scrapping football altogether is a nonstarter at the moment.

The reality is UConn has realized they need to be in a basketball first league with their old rivals. I think their football isnt going away right now---but for certain---its days as an FBS program are likely numbered---and its days as a football program at all may possibly be nearing an end.

I wouldn’t go that far. They make more sense as a full member than all but the most optimistic replacement scenarios but let’s not pretend that the football program on its own would be sought after.

I think it's a win-win for both parties

UConn can go be a basketball school again. Face it, their football dreams never took off and got the shaft in realignment

The AAC gets to move on without football deadweight. Maybe it is time to try and bring Army on board

Nothing against UConn, but this may be one the best things that could happen to the AAC. Our big $$$ TV deal is not impacted. We lose an absolute bottom feeder in Football. Some really attractive potential additions, we end up stronger. My best of luck to UConn, but they were a continuing publicity 'problem' for the AAC, and it's probably best to part ways. Are they just going to end FB? Otherwise good luck with indy or some FB conference below the AAC... Wow.

Just for the record, Bleacher Report has the worst track record out there for getting anything right. Their writers can't get the their facts straight half of the time and they show little comprehension of sports.

And as to UConn's being impacted by the TV contract, I would think that the Network knew exactly what they were doing. ESPN holds the Big East rights. Having UConn back there makes their holdings more valuable and it takes away a laggard from the value of the AAC football.

The AAC should replace U Conn with Air force football only.
Air force would benefit being in a national conference with Navy the top two military programs .
Air Force could easily join the Big sky for its number twelve or the Summit.

Trollololo

As a PITT/NAVY fan this is a huge day

UConn self implodes and their trash heap of a football program leaves the AAC as well as puts a close to the annoying UCONN to the ACC pipe dream

Amen. There was never a realistic pathway for UConn to be offered ACC membership because of their black hole football program, now there's not even an unrealistic pathway.

The committee sure didn't reward teams with poor overall records like Indiana last year. Until we start seeing the committee rewarding teams that finish 18-15 or worse, having 2 extra conference games- I just don't see the benefit.

It is a boon in TV dollars, depending on the set up. I know the ACC did it in part to have a few more attractive games for the ACC network. Also allows more teams to get round robins with the flagship teams.

There is one BIG benefit to UConn being in the conference, that people neglect to mention. UConn was the only thing that separated the outside view of the conference from that of the old Conference USA. That is gone now.

There is zero good reason to dump UConn football, it is just the sound of wounded pride and spite. Wins and losses come and go, nobody makes conference decisions based on won-loss over a 5 year period.

Talk of dumping UConn football is emotional not logical.

I don't know about that. You don't want to reward a team leaving you and taking their most valuable commodity out of the shared assets, only to allow them to share in where they contribute the least (at least right now). So it makes sense to not allow them to stay. Now, I understand where you are coming from why it would make some sense to let them stay, but to say there is "zero reason" to dump them is not really accurate.

Fundamentally, UConn is the AAC's best school. Would be cutting off nose to spite face to make their football leave.

lol...UConn has never been good. They have been a bit above average a few times---but they are far more Tulane than UCF. Yes, they bring a lot to the table institutionally, but after soaking up the biggest part of the realignment fund only to abandon the conference when it was exhausted likely will leave then with few supporters among the remaining members. Aresco's "emotions" wont be making this decision. The the AAC presidents will.

There is one BIG benefit to UConn being in the conference, that people neglect to mention. UConn was the only thing that separated the outside view of the conference from that of the old Conference USA. That is gone now.

I think Navy contributed to that as well--but point taken.

RE: WOW ... looks like UConn hoops IS going to Big East
Quo, the SNY TV is why UConn is leaving. I don;t think they could stay.

From a scheduling standpoint, the logical compromise is to let UConn play AAC football in 2020, but they would not be eligible for the CCG, and they would not get revenue from media for the year.

That would allow both sides to work out the scheduling for 2021. It also gives Aresco a year to get the Division-less football rule changed, or at the least an amendment allowing them to have a CCG with slightly imbalanced scheduling (my suggesting that one West Division game be broken each year, presumably Navy to maintain an 8 game schedule and near balance).

It also gives the American a year to look for a Football replacement and not panic grab. ESPN would likely support both moves, and probably would pay the American the full 12 shares to stay at 11 if they don't like the options. It also maintains amicable relations with the Big East which houses Temple and Cincy women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey, while the American has Villanova and likely UConn rowing. The Big East could offer to take in Houston and ECU men's swimming.

But long term the SNY issue makes UConn Football untenable for both the American and UConn. The only thing I see on the table is the 2020 season due to scheduling difficulties of a move this late in 2019. It's just easier on all sides. But 2021 UConn has to be out.
