Otherwise they would have to kick someone out or add someone

May make sense for 1 year, but not more than that. That would let them have time to work on schedule, and AAC time to reload. And I would not give them more than 1/2 a football share in TV revenue for that year.

Yeah at least for 2020. Don’t think UConn can come anywhere close to putting together a schedule by then.

Well AAC schools can help them with a bunch of 2 for 1s in AAC's favor.

That's 5 of 12 games you need right there for independent schedule.

Those schools are all happy about this news for sure

Interesting quotes from the article:
...
The market and common sensibilities for the future of UConn athletics appear to be changing.
...
Sources told Yahoo Sports that the AAC will not take UConn as a football-only member. UConn has been historically bad on the field and holds little resonance off of it. Independence would likely end up as UConn’s best option.
...
To those in the AAC, this move comes as comes as little surprise. The biggest sign that UConn could be moving elsewhere soon was their opposition to the league’s recent television deal.
...
For the AAC, the next likely move would be to follow the model they have with Navy as a football-only and add a school like Army or Air Force. Then they’d follow up that move and add a basketball power like they recently did with Wichita State. (VCU would be the most logical target there.)
...

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
Navy FB only, 1 option is FB only
Why not let Conn be FB only

If nobody surprised, then options have already been discussed

Because UConn FB is net negative value. Army/Dayton, Army/VCU, ODU, UAB, etc. provide more value than UConn FB-only.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
No chance in hell that UConn is allowed to stay football only. They are one of the 5 worst FBS programs in the last 5 years.. losing them is what they call addition by subtraction.

UCONN back to the Big East?
So much gnat straining.

There is likely ZERO reason for AAC to replace UConn. If it hurts the tv deal an 11 split likely beats a 12 split of whatever new price comes along and there is no longer a need to have a 12th for a title game.

I expect UConn’s donation and ticket sales concerns greatly out-weighed tv dollars.

Big East Catholics left over football when they were having to accommodate football. They don’t have to accommodate football for UConn so not their problem.

I expect UConn goes Indy but Sun Belt has a new commissioner. Adding two football only to the east would put the Alabama schools in the same division. Out there but league has done some odd stuff immediately following leadership changes.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
An Army/VCU combo would be quite nice for the AAC.

The biggest stumbling block I see is the logicistics that need to be worked out about the Army/Navy game and that special date slot they have

Brett McMurphy says UConn won't drop football, but it makes no sense for the AAC to keep them around after they just left them to get back with the ex. It's a little exciting to see football indies start to make a resurgence, isn't it? Everything old is new again.

Thoughts on Southern Miss or Marshall joining? USM's a solid program that's earned it over the years, even if they're financially troubled, and Marshall would help them solidify their presence in the East and Midwest and keep the conference from getting too southern. I would say Buffalo would be a decent addition, but their football stadium's barely FBS-level, let alone good enough for the AAC's ambitions.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
I don't see Army having any interest. ODU, WKU, make some sense, If you could pull off a 4 fb only out west or maybe even a 4 all sports that could make sense. Doubt that happens though, Byu, AF, Col state (likely needed to get AF) and Boise could be pretty sweet add. go to 3 divisions for BB west, central, east. play everyone in your div 2x and other divisions 1x. cuts travel and makes a nice 18 game conference schedule.

I’d have a very hard time believing that.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
Cronin leaving means far more realistically than UConn leaving. UConn in the 6 years of the AAC is 2 games over .500 in conference play. And struggled in OOC.

What I think it's going to do is force the league to get a VCU to replace them.... VCU last 5 years better than UConn last 5 years. Plus they fit geographically.

RE: UCONN back to the Big East?
I don’t usually follow Jon Rothstein’s work but I thought the three tweets today were interesting.

2 hours ago: Sources: Contrary to reports, there is nothing official between UConn and the Big East. Big East has yet to have an official vote as to whether or not to extend an invitation to the Huskies. If an invitation is extended, UConn's Board of Trustees would have to vote to approve.

1 hour ago: Sources: If the marriage between UConn and the Big East does come to fruition as most expect, men's basketball in the Big East will go to 20 league games during the 20-21 season in an effort to keep the double round-robin format alive.

The tweet I posted above was 40 minutes ago. Somebody apparently knows something..
