Marketing agreement gives UAB $17 million boost

As part of a recently amended marketing and broadcast rights agreement, UAB athletics will receive about $17 million in guaranteed royalties over the life of the deal with at least another $16 million possible under additional revenue sharing provisions.

The 10-year agreement would run from July 1 June 30, 2029. UAB would get a guaranteed royalty payment that would increase from $1.25 million in the first year to $1.9 million in year 10. Last year, UAB received about $355,000 from the agreement, Ingram estimated.

Congrats, UAB. $17 Million is some real moola. At MT, our solution is to just raise students' tuition and activity fees. Seriously looks like the Blazers are doing something proactive and at our level that's is worth celebrating.

So the marketing firm sells commercial time during it's broadcasts of UAB sporting events, and then a portion of that ad revenue is returned to UAB to the tune of $1 million a year? Am I getting the gist of this? Explain. How is a marketing firm making that much money?

It is a comprehensive deal which includes much more than ad time during events.

That's right. Some of the money is already being allocated to some facility upgrades: renovation of olympic sports' weight room, scoreboard improvements for baseball & softball, new scoreboard for beach volleyball, and adding a marquee along the main street through campus to advertise games.
