RE: Any questions about this list ....
Dear MAC,
The last three athletic directors at Eastern, were hired by Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and Tulsa. This shows the stupidity of this study on the desirability of athletic directors from Eastern.

Because they bolted at their first chance? Or that they did "so we'll" they got hired away? There is some grey area. Our AD has been at Toledo for 17 years and because of quality of living and job security he hasn't left. He has stayed at Toledo because it's a good job. I bet he has a dream job of a few schools. Maybe ND, Michigan State or whoever. He isn't taking a job at Tulsa...

Dear UofToledoFans,
It doesn't matter whether they bolted or not. The point of the survey was Eastern was a graveyard for athletic directors. If, the schools I mentioned liked what they saw, obviously, they were hired to be in charge of bigger programs.
If, as you say, your athletic director is happy at Toledo, great. That adds nothing to the argument of athletic directors desirability.

My question is - is the list any more scientific than throwing darts at a board?

RE: Any questions about this list ....
I still don't get the obsession over Buffalo. The way people talk about them on the Realignment section, you'd think they were a Central Florida or Boise St. I wonder how much opinions will change when UB finishes middle-of-the-pack MAC East again? That being said, I'd probably slot them 5th.
I'd put Northern Illinois, Miami, Toledo, and Ohio as the 'favorites,' not necessarily in that order.
And I do agree it's a crime to rank Eastern Michigan dead last in everything. They've been decent at basketball and have improved to a solid football program, maybe a dark-horse to win the MAC this year. Their non-revenue sports are dominant. The only problem is they've had a lot of budget issues, but 12 in everything? Come on, man.

The best thing these 12 programs have going for them is they play in the MAC.
FBS conference. Good cost model. MAC puts a regional talent showcase on for ESPN in November with overlooked players as the B1G has evolved into more of a national conference.
Its a niche product. A highly respected niche product but niche still the same. At this point it has a solid spot in the ranks of the G5.

I think this was the point this thread morphed from a discussion of the best gigs in our conference for an athletic director to which school would be the best expansion candidate for a P5 conference.
Weird how that happened.

This is one of the worst predictions of schools in the MAC that I have seen in years. What were the guidelines for any category? The last five years, ten years? What? Eastern has some of the best performing non-revenue sports of any school in the league, and we are ranked worst? This is total B.S.
It's presented as a survey of 150 AD's and "executive administrators" who are "or could be" in the MAC. So with respect to this ...

It may well be that a majority of the 150 people willing to be included in the survey are working at a position where they would jump at a chance at any MAC school, and therefore are still working where they are working because they haven't yet had that chance.
In which case, it'd not even about which one Charlize Theron would pick. It'd a table of schlubs deciding which of the girls over at another table are the hottest, when none of them could get a date with whichever girl they rank the lowest.

But one of the eight questions in the survey was:
Quote: Potential to become a ‘Power 5’ AD from each institution
... so it was really lurking in there all along.

I took that to mean potential for the AD to get hired away by P5 program. There is really no chance any MAC team will ever be invited to a P5 conference.

RE: Any questions about this list ....
Potential to be a P5 AD: I don't see how this really should play into it. So if you have a decent (not awesome; not bad) AD who stays there a long time -- why would this automatically mean you're worse than one who loses their AD to a P5 after a quickie time-frame, then it takes them years to get a decent one??
I'd take that one and replace it with "ON WAY UP". Buffalo would get #1, but wouldn't be so high on the charts otherwise.
Brand Perception? Buffalo's #1 because they aren't directional? I can't really think that, otherwise Ohio would certainly be #2 or #3, and BGSU wouldn't be so low. I don't see how CMU's "Brand" would be 2 steps up above WMU's.
Donor Support -- WMU has gotten plenty. Pays their HC a LOT due to it. Don't know where this is cumming from.

... indeed, if this is mostly AD's and other athletic administrators who would aspire to get a MAC position over the one they presently have, "that's a great stepping stone to a P5 job!" is an attitude they would work very hard to hide while seeking the MAC job.

Sorry, I did not Schadenfreude's comment carefully enough. Yes, the only sense in which "a MAC school" might one day be invited to a P5 conference is if the "former MAC member" UCF gets its ticket punched.

Which doesn't rule out any of the current MAC members someday.
Cincinnati, which also gets tossed around a lot, was in the MAC as well.
