Not that publisher pools mean a damn, but The Athletic has the Bearcats at #20 in their preseason 130.
"UCF has a new quarterback with McKenzie Milton still rehabbing, but it has as good of receivers and running backs as you’ll find anywhere. The Knights are the favorite for the Group of 5 New Year’s Six spot until they’re knocked off the perch. Maybe it can be Cincinnati, which returns a ton from an 11-win team and hosts UCF. Appalachian State returns almost everything on both sides of the ball from an 11-win team, and if the transition to new head coach Eli Drinkwitz goes smoothly and cornerback gets set, the Mountaineers should content for the NY6 spot."
Others of note:
(4) Ohio State
(13) UCF
(25) Appalachian State
(27) Boise State
(35) Memphis
(47) Houston
(63) Marshall
(68) UCLA

My brother ran into Brandon Saho from Channel 5 the other day after he visited practice. He asked him what he thought of the team this year. He said that he has never seen a more deep Bearcat team at ever position on the field. That sounds great to me.
For those with betting interests, I don't know how long it's been up - I know it wasn't when I'd looked about a month ago - but Bovada has active odds on the AAC champ. UCF +200 (2-1), Memphis +265, UC +600 (6-1), Houston +600 (6-1). UC at 6-1 sounds healthy.
UC also has +350 (7-2) odds to win the East with UCF at -125.

Exciting times for Bearcat football fans....This year and next will let us know, now, more than ever, where the Bearcats stand nationally. Coaches, players, schedule all better than ever, we will know by the end of next year.

Anything less than 9 or regular season wins we may need the Suicide Hotline number to be posted.
Has a decision been made at kicker? I love Cole Smith’s potential (he routinely drills 50+ in practice) but like many freshman kickers he sucked last year. The game pressure clearly got him several times. Has the coach made an announcement on this?

Cole out. Graduate transfer Sam Crosa in.
Basically it came down to consistency. Crosa missed one kick all of camp. Also, he did point out he still likes Cole Smith’s potential.

NEW YEAR’S SIX BOWLS
Dec. 28 | Peach | Atlanta
Clemson (CFP No. 1) vs. Oklahoma (CFP No. 4)
Dec 30 | Orange | Miami
Syracuse (ACC) vs. Ohio State (B1G/SEC/ND)
Jan. 1 | Rose | Pasadena, Calif.
Penn State (B1G) vs. Utah (Pac-12)
Jan. 1 | Sugar | New Orleans
Texas (Big 12) vs. LSU (SEC)
Cotton Bowl vs. any opponent is certainly the dream scenario. His prediction implies a fine season and conference championship. Most importantly, it puts Bearcat football on the biggest stage since New Orleans. If that happens, maybe we have a coaching staff that would stick around for the bowl game this time.
