First, let's examine the men's results.
There are 274 Division I men's track and field programs. Power 5 + Notre Dame make up 65/274, or just 23.7% of those programs. At the recent championships, Power 5 + Notre Dame accounted for 73.2% (123/168) of all scorers.
Breakdown per kind of event:
Throws: 26/32 (81.3%)
Jumps: 18/24 (75.0%)
Sprints: 16/24 (66.7%)
Distance: 27/40 (67.5%)
Hurdles: 11/16 (68.8%)
Pole Vault: 5/8 (62.5%)
Decathlon: 7/8 (87.5%)
Relays: 13/16 (81.3%)

If you just take out Houston (8) and BYU (6), the Power 5 + Notre Dame account for 79.9% of all scorers.

Women:
There are 312 Division I women's teams, so P5 + Notre Dame make up just 20.8% of the total.
But, they made up 77.4% (130/168) of all scorers.
Throws: 28/32 (87.5%)
Jumps: 20/24 (83.3%)
Sprints: 20/24 (83.3%)
Distance: 22/40 (55.0%)
Hurdles: 15/16 (93.8%)
Pole Vault: 5/8 (62.5%)
Heptathlon: 5/8 (62.5%)
Relays: 15/16 (93.8%)
Remove distance, and P5 + Notre Dame are up to 84.4%.

Is it time for DI to be split in track and field? I know that Houston, BYU and North Carolina A&T would not favor such a move.
