2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Men's Basketball sent out a newsletter yesterday with some updates for the upcoming season.

1. They will play at Rutgers again (ho-hum)

2. They will travel to Nacogdoches, TX to play Stephen F. Austin

3. They will host LaSalle and play at Temple. (So I guess no Penn or SJU again)

4. They will travel to Florida for the first time since 2003 and play South Florida in Tampa.

5. They will play in the Boardwalk Battle in Atlantic City on December 20-21. This is the first time in a while that they will play in a true 4 team tournament with a championship and consolation game.

The wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019%E2%80...tball_team) currently lists the following:

1. Home game vs. Niagara
2. Road game at UMBC
3. A 2019 regular season game at the new DC basketball arena where the CAA Tournament will be held this season.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
For an expected decent season for the men, that seems like a decent haul for games with some good opportunities. I like the fact we found a game to play at the new arena as a preparation for the tournament. Makes it seem like Spiker and crew are definitely taking this season seriously. I would guess this is a game against American or DII, but maybe we got George Washington to play a neutral game there (doubtful).

I guess that's the season opener, and it's on election day. Why don't they just start the season in August, since it keeps on getting earlier and earlier?

The earliest game Temple basketball has ever scheduled, not sure about DU. I'm guessing late October exhibition/scrimmage(s).

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
According to the Wikipedia page linked above,

Drexel will face Quinnipiac on Friday December 20th in the Boardwalk Battle in AC. The other 2 teams in the tournament are Bowling Green and Norfolk State.

So there is definitely not going to be much of a draw for this tournament. I'll bet they don't get more than a thousand fans per day at 10,500 seat Boardwalk Hall. With those 4 teams, they could probably get away with playing this tournament in the DAC and there would still be plenty of seats to spare.

That said, I'm actually planning a family trip to Atlantic City that weekend and I'm actually looking forward to it.

I have a feeling we will get one big school and I think there are only a couple spots left.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Drexel announced that their first home game is Friday November 8th vs. Niagara. The Friday night home openers have drawn sellout crowds to the DAC over several years. We didn't have one last year (opening against Bryn Athyn on a Wednesday), and that put a little dent in the team's attendance figures.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Good home opener for sure. Winnable to get the fans behind the team. Definitely an interesting slate so far. Not too challenging, but still with some decent opponents

@Temple to open the season should be interesting, but a likely loss
@Rutgers on 11/13 will be a challenge but should be 2-1 heading into that game. Should be a real test of the teams temperature

Early home games against Niagara, Abilene Christian, Bryant and La Salle should have this team in a good position into December. The Boardwalk Battle in Atlantic City is not going to draw well or elicit much excitement, but Quinnipiac, Bowling Green and Norfolk State is a group that we should be able to get victories over if we truly are a top CAA team this season.

Definitely wont be an at large caliber schedule, but has many winnable games. 5 road and 4 home games so far is a nice split. I am guessing we will get another home game over a low major. Maybe a team like Monmouth or Fairleigh Dickinson or LIU Brooklyn or similar. I know there are links somewhere on who is looking for games on certain dates, but I do not recall where that is.

More than likely, that extra home game will be against a DII or DIII team. That seems to be the standard in college basketball these days. We also have that open game listed to be played in Washington DC. I wonder if that game will actually happen.

Drexel booked Bryant which is a D1 team( I had to look it up). Looks like there is one free spot left. Between Nov 20th and Dec 7th. If the game happens in DC it is probably GW or American.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
You are probably right, JB. I would hope that we would buck that trend and can find a partner for a home game or a home and home for a future road game. There are enough games in this slate that giving the guys a winnable game, shouldnt be the issue or the reason we schedule a lower division opponent.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Princeton is an interesting game for us to get. Home game on Wednesday December 4th. The game at the DC Sports Arena was removed from the schedule, so I'll assume that's a no go. There are now 12 non-conference games. The season ticket information reads that there will be 15 home games. So if that's true, then that 15th game will likely be a DII or DIII game again.

There will probably be one D2/D3 but, right now there is no game between LA Salle and South Florida dates and no game after Dec 21st. Drexel likes to have a Jan 1st or Dec 31st game.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Princeton is a good get for sure. I would take a top Ivy (Cornell, Princeton, UPenn, Yale) game every year. Getting home and home is even better. I would rather a Princeton over Monmouth, FDU, LIU etc. Good job to the staff for securing this home and home

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
The e-mail went out to season ticket holders and the answers to our questions are solved.

South Florida game is on Monday December 16th.

Drexel will be hosting Rosemont College on Monday November 25th so they can make it 15 home games.

I won't get into the Women's schedule. But one thing that I noticed is that Drexel Men and Drexel Women are both playing at home on December 4th. Men vs. Princeton and Women vs. Villanova. So I guess that means Doubleheader. As someone who attends both men's and women's game but also finds it a pain to get down to the DAC, especially on weeknights, I am a huge fan of doubleheaders and the opportunity to see 2 games in one trip.

RE: 2019-2020 Schedule Updates
Thats a good schedule. Said elsewhere, but a positive schedule for student turnout as well. Good team, exciting style of basketball paired with times students are around and not around holidays means this should be a well attended season (ideally). Now the team needs to perform to keep them coming back game after game.
