Mike Martin's corpse might have more postseason ability than Danny Hall in his prime. Congrats on thumping the mutts.

Danny Hall should have been given the Jack Leggett curtain call .... and probably the exact same year Jack got it.

If I'm Coastal Carolina, I'm feeling really good right now. GT will likely give Hall another 5 year extension because the bar is set so low for the entire athletic program. Can any GT athletics program win in the postseason? I mean, most I realize consider the ACC Tournament as their postseason, but the few that get to some kind of NCAA Tournament usually underachieve. I guess GT brings the Atlanta market to the ACC. I guess.

Mike Martin is Mr. Regular season. 1,000+ wins and zero CWS titles to show for it....”but that’s baseball” (in my best Mike Martin voice)

It starts at the top. If you're going by recent history you're going by one absolute implosion of an AD (Mike Bobinski), one guy who used GT as a stepping stone putting all kinds of new facilities on a credit card (including a very pricey deferred float loan that came due like a year or two ago with an 8 figure payment), and one guy who botched every hire they made and gave Paul Hewitt the $8m dollar unobtainium contract that crashed the hoops program for a decade (Dave Braine-less). The current AD is the first one in the driver seat with a damn clue since Homer Rice left. So far every hire they've made has been a major upgrade with an instant impact (softball, football). So far they've got the fan base united and the fundraising rolling (AI2020). Russell is finally gone and replaced with Adidas. They finally have a real radio flagship that doesn't vanish outside the perimeter when the sun goes down and talk about UGAg most of the rest of the time. But Todd Stansbury has only been on the job 2 years. Mike Bobinski and Dave Brainless had about 2 decades of incompetence between the two of them that must now be overcome. The Queen Mary doesn't turn on a dime.

Mike routinely advances out of regionals, even ones he didn't host. That's enough to eclipse Danny.

Eight ACC teams still alive, but five face elimination today. FSU, Duke and UNC all in the regional finals. Of the 16 regional hosts, only Oregon State has been eliminated so far.

Your starter can't get anybody out, there's 2 runs in, 2 more in scoring position, and if you lose your season is over.

No activity in the bullpen. This is a very strong vintage of Danny Hall postseason play indeed.

EDIT: Bases loaded four pitch walk. Still nobody in the bullpen.

Three runs in, three runs on, still the same pitcher.

Well now that a hole has been dug for the rest of the game and the season nearly put away ... we're gonna get a pitching change.

What a clown show. Fire Danny. I don't care if he was ACC COTY this year. You play to win in the postseason, and Danny is flat out allergic to winning in the postseason.

Lotta baseball left to play .... C'mon Jackets ....

Cards up early on Hoosiers. 4 - 0 going to 3rd. Can the Cards play with prosperity? Not looking like it ... 2 on, no out for Hoosiers.

Cards flirt with disaster, loading the bases with no outs ... before two K's, and pop up gets them off the hook. Still 4 - 0. But Jesus we make things a whole lot harder than they should be.

That's not Danny's M.O.

2007: No Regional
2008: 2 seed in the Athens regional, win over 3/4 seeds lost by a combined 34-6 to U[sic]GA in the final two games.
2009: Hosted regional, lost 10-7 to 3 seed Southern Miss then later lost again 12-8 to Southern Miss
2010: Needing one win to advance in their hosted regional, they lost back to back games against 2 seed Alabama to be eliminated
2011: Lost to 4 seed Austin Peay State then 7-3 to 3 seed Mississippi State to get bounced from their own regional by the 3 and 4 seeds
2012: 2 seed in the Gainesville regional, lost two games to Florida by a combined score of 21-5.
2013: 2 seed in the Nashville regional (and probably the easiest draw they've had in recent memory against ETSU/Illinois) ... they lost to 3 seed Illinois then won every game in elimination until the final decisive game against Vanderbilt where they lost 7-1
2014: 3 seed in the Lafayette regional, lost 8-0 then 4-2 to 2 seed Washington
2015: No regional
2016: 2 seed in the Gainesville regional, lost to 3 seed UCONN then blown out 10-1 by Florida
2017: No regional
2018: No regional
2019: Up 5-2 (shoulda been 6-2) in the 9th ... reach on error, HBP, single, HR. The unearned run and the not-to-be-found-in-the-box-score base running error that left a run at 3rd by English were particularly galling.

RE: NCAA Baseball Tourney thread ....
I have to agree with you, GTS. GT has one of the best feeder pipelines in East Cobb, not to mention the state of GA is loaded with young talent across the state, and Hall normally reels in top 20/10 recruiting classes. It amazes me the significant amount of talent (as seen in MLB) that has run through that program over the last 3 decades to routinely underachieve.

What was even more bizarre was when Hall was granted a contract extension spurred by Dean Buchan, who was the interim AD at the time between Bobinski & arrival of Stansbury. When Hall either retires or is let go (I'm convinced that will never happen at this point), there will be a line a mile long of coaches wanting that job. The facilities are 1st class, as mentioned the recruiting in their backyard is superb, and you have guys like Mark Teixeira giving a buuuuunch of money to the program. It will be interesting to see if former Nole, James Ramsey, Tech's hitting and 3B coach will be groomed to take that job one day.

Dean stuck around when Bobinski was there. That, frankly, is a strike against him. All the top flight talent in the GTAA got the hell out of there while Bobinski was in charge.

If I were AD and Danny loses today I'd greet him in the clubhouse and tell him next year his primary job is begin preparing the program for a new coach. I'd start a national search with priority given for recruiting ties in GA/SC/NC, particularly Atlanta, GSP, and the I-95 corridor in the Carolinas. When I find that new coach whenever they decide who their assistants will be they'll be installed immediately and existing personnel let go. Danny can smile and wave and collect his trinkets in his farewell tour. You play to win in the postseason and Danny flat out can't do that and a decade and a half of futility proves it. Even if he advances out of regionals I'd tell him the same thing if he lost in the supers.

It's Benny Hill music out there on defense. This team is still mentally defeated by Auburn. Stick a fork in 'em.

Barring some miracle comebacks, looks like the Pack and Jackets are toast. UofL hanging on. UNC is now in the driver's seat to host a SR and get to Omaha. Tennessee has a 1-run lead over Liberty in the 7th. Winner gets the Heels tonight.

Georgia is blowing out FAU so the red-hot scoring Noles will face UGA tonight. Go Noles!

Clemson and Miami both have elimination games starting at the top of the hour. Go Tigers and Canes!
