So with two weeks left in the regular season, NU currently tied for 5th in the CAA.

NU played out of conference this weekend (every team has to since there are only 9 teams) and won 2 of 3 at Siena. NU split a DH on Saturday, winning 6-4 and losing 4-3 on a walkoff. But NU bounced back Sunday, winning 11-0 in 5 innings due to rain.

Saturday highlights...

https://youtu.be/e-u9lKdhrFc

NU won 4 out of 5 games during the week. They close out the regular season hosting JMU in their last homes series before ending it at Towson.

JMU currently in 3rd place at 9-9, W&M is 4th at 10-11, UNCW, NU and Delaware are tied at 8-10.
Hofstra is a game back at 7-11 and Towson is 6-12.

NU holds tiebreakers over WM, Delaware and Hofstra. But lose it to UNCW.

The problem for NU has been pitching, particularly the bullpen. Shoddy middle relief between the starters and the closer Andrew Misiaszek has been the Achilles heel.

Will Ben tough to win the tournament if Tyler Brown and Brandon Dufault don’t turn it around. They were the weekend starters with Mellen to start the first half of the season, but have been put in the bullpen because of inconsistency.

Must win the next two series, starting with JMU this weekend.

NU behind starter David Stiehl and reliever Brandon Dufault held JMU to just 4 hits in a 6-1 win at Friedman Diamond.

Jake Farrell homered and Michael Geaslen doubled with 2 RBI.

NU Andrew JMU meet again Saturday at 1pm on NESN Plus.

NU and JMU play the rubber game in the series Sunday.

RE: Baseball
NU gets a walk off sacrifice fly in the 9th to edge JMU 5-4, to take 2 out of 3 in the series.

NU had a 4-3 lead with one out in the top of the 9th when closer Andrew Misiaszek gave up a game-tying HR. He got the win in relief.

Scott Holzwasser went 3-5 with 2 doubles, including the lead off double in the 9th that put pressure on the Dukes. He batted .600 in the series.

NU ends the regular season this weekend at Towson, still in control of their own destiny.

RE: Baseball
NU by winning the first two games of their road series at Towson, clinch their 7th straight conference tournament.

NU with a win today can clinch the 3rd seed outright. I think they still can clinch the 3rd seed with a loss, since they own tiebreakers over W&M and JMU.

Good luck on Wednesday guys.

Who do you think will take the mound for you? Stiehl or Mellen?

What’s up SN08. Congratulations on the nuptials!

Not sure yet on who will start, but Mellen pitched on Friday, so he’s in line to start as well as Stiehl.

I realize you guys are confident in beating NU, and you probably should, but I like the way Dufault has pitched out of the bullpen. He’s been the bridge to Misiaszek that we’ve needed.

But at the end of the day, I still think this just isn’t our year.

Thank you!

Given our up and down play all year, I'm not "confident" we'll beat you guys. But among the available options of who we could have matched up with on Day 1, we got swept by W&M and JMU's Friday guy is really scary. So you guys were the best option amongst that trio.

Good choice, especially considering how many key lefty bats we have (Cole Weiss, Noah Bridges, Chris Thorburn, Riley Zayicek) plus a couple switch hitters who tend to hit better from the left side.

Good luck today. As we know, this is essentially an elimination game. It's pretty much impossible to lose today then win 6 straight.

Wednesday NU lost a tough 8-6 game to UNCW in 11 innings.

NU overcame and early 2-0 and 6-3 deficits, but never could get the lead.

Mellen only went 4.2 IP, allowing 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB & 5K. Brandon Dufault, who pitched great in relief, took the loss (5.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K)

Jake Farrell went 3-5 with HR and 3 RBI. Ian Fair and Corey Di Loretto had hits hits each.

NU plays JMU today at 11am in an elimination game.

RE: Baseball
The 2019 NU baseball season has come to an end after a tough 8-6 loss to top seeded Elon.

NU need the season 28-29 ...Too many RPI bad losses that we avoided last year, despite NU having the two best wins in the CAA (#20 Illinois and #27 Missouri).

I don't see Sean Mellen coming back.

I know Glavine likes his incoming arms next year, headlined by Sebastian Keane, if he comes. He’s listed as the 174th best draft prospect by Perfect Game. If he does, I love our chances of having another stellar season.

Thanks to the 2019 Class who leave as the winningest senior class of all time with 124 wins!
