Little chance he could have taken care of his "unfinished business" at UC with Cronin still here.
With Cronin everyone stays, we get Samari and we have a top 15 team. I'm sure Cumberland prefers the possibility of not even making the NCAA tournament with this current team.
You're right, we'd be top 15 during the year and lose in the first weekend in the tournament after being outscored.
I don't know if we'd be Top 15 with Cronin. Last season, when the AP poll came out on Feb 18th, we were 21-4 and unranked. They were seeded 7th in the tourney going 28-6. I got the vibe the voters and committee had pretty much caught on to what Mick was.
We were not the dominating team last year as we were in 2018. We won many close games many helped by clutch shots and play by Jenifer and Broome. So how well they would have been replaced by Johnson and Samari was a big question on our success next year. Brannen's roster is not finalized so there are big question marks there also. Just all speculative about which team would be better next year. About the only sure thing in my opinion is that our schedule next year will be much tougher than 2019.
True - Broome made some clutch shots. But let's also recognize he was the cause for some of those games being close.
Broome took a lot of ill-Advised shots that led to opponent rebounds. They did not show up in the stat sheet as turnovers...but they were effectively turnovers. It drove me crazy watching it...I will not be missing him on the court.
Perhaps overly harsh... but here's a comparison of recent 2-year guard transfers. You be the judge
Player A: 65 games, 25.4 min, 9.6 pts, 1.5 ast, 1.2 stl, 2.2 reb, 3-pt % 36.6, FT% 80.8
Player B: 69 games, 20.9 min, 8.1 pts, 2.5 ast, 0.8 stl, 1.6 rebm 3-pt% 33.3. FT% 73.2
Player A = Farad Cobb (2014-16)
Player B = Cane Broome (2017-19)
Cobb was arguably the better player...and I don't recall many/any Bearcat fans missing him on the court after he left.
