It wouldn't surprise me. If he is here for four injury-free years, he has the opportunity to set an almost unbreakable career mark.

Agree. But this past year he wasn’t the pick and roll machine he was in years past as we turned into a mostly jump shooting team. He got his in the post for sure though.

I’d like to see a by teammate breakdown on all 253 assists and see what that looks like.

Kai shared the ball pretty evenly. He would have had a lot more assists had we been a better shooting team. I'm expecting those percentages to rise next season. This, he should continue on a record setting career.

Agree! DC was one of the greatest to wear a Seahawk uniform and Kai has the ability to get himself in the rafters as well with a four year stint.

Adding experience to some of our shooters, new shooters and slashers (specifically so defenses can't just sit on our shooters), I have to believe will see at least similar numbers (which are great) or an increase.

I'm extra positive with last years' additions to the team combined with this year. I think this is the year McGrath turns it around.

Kai has the potential to have a 1000 assist career. Just keep in mind I said potential.

Duke's Bobby Hurley has the assist record with 1,076. 253 per season would make Toews finish with 1,012, which would be the fourth most. Four player have at least 1,000. If he finishes with 1,012 and nobody else beats him to it, the top four would be from Hurley from Duke, Chris Corchiani from North Carolina State, and Ed Cota from North Carolina. The most assists by a player not from North Carolina is 1,009 by Jason Brickman of Long Island University-Brooklyn. The CAA record is 714 by Navy's Doug Wojcik, and Toews is already 35.4 percent of the way there. John Goldsberry is tenth with 530, so if Toews can get 277 or more, he could reach the Top 10 as a sophomore! That's your school record, and Toews is already 16th in school history. You have 8 players who reached 300. Chaz Williams, who played one season at Hofstra followed by three at Massachusetts, had 840, which is 25th in NCAA history.

It's about team and not Kai's assists. I'd like to see him more assertive to get his points a bit more plus a great assist to TO ratio. It's about ratio and controlling the last 5 minutes to me. Hopefully he takes the next step and works on his J and getting to his spots for confidence.

I'm not worried about PG, SG, WF, or even PF right about now. Still hurting from the baseball loss....

"It's about team not Kai's assists." There IS no team last year without those CAA record breaking 253 assists! He assisted on 45% of the team's points! That's 2nd in the NCAA behind Morant. Talk about unbalanced. Kai has lots of work to do indeed. But seriously, they asked a Freshman to carry this team and play 30+ minutes a game. They asked him to run an unimaginative offense that centered not only around a high middle pick with a spread court but also made him a create a shot in the last 7 seconds when that crap offense yielded nothing. Assist to turnover ratio under those circumstances was 2.26. Highest on the team including Gadsen. Mr Steady. His AS/TO ratio was #5 among the top 10 assist leaders in the country as a Freshman. Higher than Ja Morant. Game control in the last 5 minutes? This is where coaching comes in. Go back and look at all those close games UNCW lost by 7 or less points. (9 Games) Look at the use of timeouts and the play calls. Asking a Freshman surrounded by more experienced players to bail them out is unreasonable. Wasn't the Senior leader Cacock on the bench with foul trouble in most of those? (17 games with 4 or 5 fouls??)
Kai's 2FG % was 47% and Adjusted Field Goal % was 44%. FT % was 76. If there is a one area that must improve it's his 25% 3FG stat. A 3/25 start to his D1 career must have done damage to his psyche after shooting 36% the year before at Northfield Mount Hermon. That percentage is unacceptable as a PG. If Kai had made 2 more buckets a game you'd be looking at a 13 and 8 average as a Freshman. UNCW is lucky that his name was not in that Transfer Portal this year with Cylla. Everyone knows he could play high major but how many minutes with those 3pt shooting stats? Hopefully the team this year shows significant improvement in the most important areas. Practice preparation, scouting and in game adjustments.

Sorry Hawking, but I'm not buying it when you're blaming coaching timeouts for the lack of getting it done in the last 5 minutes. That's about execution and making plays with play makers. You can't have a motion offense either when people don't buy in and are independent contractors. And, of course, they only really had Kai last year to break somebody down.

Kai needs to get better from 3 and needs to get better defensively. I feel that he will accomplish the shooting aspect and I'm hoping that the defense will keep improving too (others need to keep getting better too). Defending the opposing PG is very important as you know. He can't keep trying to split double teams either at this level. That's a live ball TO every time. He's fun to watch but now it's time to put that hard work and talent to it's fullest and most efficient use. He has the potential to be an All CAA type of guy.
