And we go down 1-2-3 on 10 pitches, with 2 strikeouts. I believe we're going against USM's Freshman midweek starter.

Looks like Jackson might have hit the wall after just one inning. Leadoff HR and then a 5-pitch walk....but he gets a much-needed doubleplay to clear the bases. Much needed because he then gives up a double before getting out of the inning with no further damage. 0-1 USM heading to B2.

Doesn’t appear that we brought our bats to the ballpark today.

9 pitch inning with no balls for Shephard.

Rice going down like flies-- 6 up, 6 down, with 4 strikeouts (3 of them on 3 pitches) on only 19 pitches. This is going to be a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnng morning (or, more accurately, a very short one).

One of the stranger dp's in t2. Bunt attempt, pitch was high inside, ball hit the bat while hitter was getting out of the way. No one ran, but Collins played to 2nd.

Dunlap apparently bought a razor.

Except for Comeaux's leadoff AB, every Rice batter has gotten behind with 0-2 count. The USM freshman is showing good command & control. 19 pitches in the first 2 innings.

Very strange. But I thought the runner from first had run to second, and was just out. The batter did not run.

USM challenged the call ... and slo-mo video seemed to show that the bunt hit first within the batter's box. Announcers thought it would be called foul. But the umps quickly confirmed the initial double play outs.

T3:

Two walks and two flyouts to center brought up HR-hitting Bowen with 2 on, 2 out. After a first ball, he fouled off three pitches ... then wiffed on high heat!! Yay!!

1-0, USM ... heading to B3.

Parth has tossed 51 pitches in 3 innings.

Let's get some runs, Owls!!

9 up, 9 down for Rice, with 6 strikeouts (4 on 3 pitches). Just pathetic.

B3 ... 2 Ks & a popup. Sigh.

7 of 9 Owls have fallen behind with 0-2 counts. Shepard has tossed 32 pitches in 3 innings.

1-0, USM ... after 3.

T4:

0-2 count ... grounder to Cruz's right ... bobbled. No throw. E6.

Franklin ... the same fellow who bunted into the 2nd inning DP ... turns to bunt and again gets a high & inside pitch. It hits his bat ... called foul. But Franklin is livid!

Next pitch ... turns to bunt. Way low & outside. Next pitch low. Gee: Throw strikes to a bunter, for God's sake!! Next pitch ... low & inside ... fouled awkwardly. Next pitch skips off the dirt. 3-2 now. Grrr. Foul on low-inside pitch. Then another skip-in ball. Walks a guy who wanted to sacrifice himself. GRRRR. Two on, no out.

Parth to the bench. (61 pitches)

I'm not watching the game but I'm guessing you don't know the difference between playing dirty and a pitcher who just can't find the plate.

Nah. He was trying brush him back when he was trying to bunt.

I don’t know that it’s necessarily dirty. I couldn’t tell where Franklin was standing. Definitely not unusual for a bunt.

Watching the game, and agree with FBO. Guess he thinks we still
have backup pitchers who can put the ball where they want to put it.

2-0 USM as Lewis does a decent job working out of it.

RE: Saturday vs USM: Game One
Blair Lewis in to pitch.

Fly to deep center. Both runners tag up.

First pitch called hit by pitch. Will be reviewed. (I can't tell from the broadcast video's slo-mo. Any contact with the ball was not obvious.) HBP call is upheld.

Now we're back to the top of the USM order ... bases loaded ... 1 out.

Montenegro: Called strike. Foul over the LF fence! Flyout to shallowish LF. Runners can't tag up. Yay!!

Guidry: Ball, a little high/outside. Call strike, upper outside corner. "That's a great pitch." Ball 2. Ball 3, not close: a high-outside looper. 3-1 count. Pitch down the middle, fouled off. Another good pitch, in the zone, highish/outside-ish, fouled off. Outside pitch pulled weakly to first ... Gneiting boots it! Run scores. He tossed it blindly underhand behind his back toward first. Caught (by Lewis?) diving to prevent it from going astray. Two USM runners near 3rd ... throw back to Collins gets the lead runner in a pickle ... and he's called out when he runs outside the basepath. "A major baerunning blunder." Whew.

2-1, USM ... heading to B4. With Slater and then Wallner due up next, it could have been a lot worse if he'd gotten up with the bases still loaded.

B4:

Top of the order.

Comeaux: 7-pitch AB, but ends with a 2-2 popup to SS behind the mound.

Gneiting: Just holds up on a 1-2 pitch way low & outside. Then wiffs on the next pitch, which was a little closer, but still out of the zone.

Trei: Pops 1-1 pitch into shallow right-center. Caught by 2B.

Sigh.

2-0, USM ... after 4.

USM pitcher has a perfect game going. (Hoping to jinx him for next inning.)
