Swanson Lands 757 Recruit for Next Season
Ed Swanson and Tribe Women's Basketball have landed a local 757
three-time All-State young lady from Norfolk, Chaniqua Gilliam...the first time in my memory that we've signed a star from this area. She led her lake Taylor team to the state championship this past season.

Welcome to the Tribe, Chaniqua!
**************************************
Below is info from the W&M press release:

Chaniqwa Gilliam, 5-8, Guard, Norfolk, Va./Lake Taylor
HIGH SCHOOL
Played her final two years of high school hoops at Lake Taylor, after playing the three years of varsity basketball at Atlantic Shores Christian … Helped Lake Taylor to the VHSL State Title earlier this year … Named All-Conference all four years of high school ... Named to the All-Region team in 2019 … Tabbed to the All-State Team for three seasons … Finished her high school career scoring 1,903 points … Played her club basketball for Team Loaded and Norfolk Xpress.

PERSONAL
Daughter of Bernard Gilliam and Taneisha James … Wants to major in kinesiology and health sciences at W&M … Enjoys reading and traveling during her spare time.

Swanson on Gilliam
"Chaniqwa is a hard-nosed player that will come in and help us right away. From right down the road in Norfolk, we are excited to bring in a player from the 757. She can help us as a combo guard offensively, but also has the ability to be a lock-down defender as well. I look forward to watching her become the player our staff knows she can be."

Bubba, we've got Harper Birdsong (Suffolk), and Nyla Pollard (Virginia Beach) on the roster. Birdsong was independent league state POY three years in a row at Nansemond Suffolk.

Well, he DID say "the first time in my memory". Bubba's memory must not be very long. 03-wink
