I hope SMU uses this season to build something sustainable by focusing more on HS recruits they can develop. If they do, they'll be a top program.

Two things:

1. SMU will be remembered and labeled as cheaters for many more decades whether or not they ever cheat again

2. Temple will be remembered and labeled as the worst team in college football ever for many more decades whether or not they have all winning seasons and annual bowl game appearances until that asteroid hits the planet

Build the program in whatever manner is necessary to make it a winning program without cutting corners. Enticing transfers with legitimate methods to attend your school is not cheating or even unethical in any possible way.

Actually the population decline was based on individual city limits not a region of the country. And for the record I don't think their players are getting paid.

Not if one is a Big Ten fan with a memory. Northwestern might have been worse.
They went through one period where they were 3-62-1. 1976-1981. And then another 13 years without a winning record with best season during these 13 years of 4-7.

Relax? I was commenting because it was funny.

And I don't feel sorry for people bagging on you for years. People have been bagging on SMU for 35 years.

That's cool. 04-cheers

I don't know. Kansas State was easily one of worst dumpster fires in history before Bill Snyder but most don't seem to remember that anymore.

smu cheating thing will probably be true

i don't agree with the temple, temple just needs 1 elite season (ny6 type) no one will care about the past or remember.. baylor defined horrific football for decades (longer and bigger than temple), that was changed instantly with briles

i don't think his point was cheating or it being unethical ..but that heavily relying on transfers (especially grad transfers) reduces your scholarship players over the years (limits on how many players you can bring in yearly)...and developing players (as opposed to plug and play) is consistency as they are taught the skills needed..with transfers its take as they are..even if they are good they might not be good at what you need, and every year its completely different skills with different players, which could lead to sporadic results

Speaking of whack-a-mole, teams that may peak their heads above the hole only to be whacked back again are Rutgers in the Big10. Vandy in the SEC. Kansas in the Big 12. Wake in the ACC. Oregon State in the PAC. San Jose, etc. The AAC seems to have more opportunity for lower ranked teams to succeed than most.

when uconn leaves, every aac at some point in the aac was heavily recieving votes or ranked at some point

uconn was the only aac team that has never received top 25 votes in the aac

(note ecu was ranked a huge portion of their 1st season...tulsa received lots of top 5 vote their 10 win season 3 years ago)
