The Chippewas will compete for the MAC West title this season.

FIRE UP CHIPS! :)

You're either a troll or insane.

The chimps aren't going to finish in the top 3 in the West. Not this year.

CMU 2019 preview:

- New coaching staff
- New schemes
- New QB (who has been at 3 different schools over the past 3 years)
- O-line lacks talent
- No proven playmakers on offense, except for Ward if he reverts to 2017 form
- D-line lost top 3 guys including NFL-caliber Danna. DE 2-deep is a total mystery
- Top 3 LBs are gone. Next to zero experience there, and serious lack of talent in the unit
- Both CBs are gone, and were NFL-caliber guys.
- And for good measure...new punter as well

Explain to me how they're going to beat the rest of the MAC West.

Man, you really nailed that one.

Well, all of those things were true.

I stand corrected about the whole "competing for the West" thing, though. MacElwain is better than we all thought. He's charging ahead, trying to get back to the P5 ranks.

A very weak MAC West in 2019.

That certainly helped. I think any team in the West could have won the division if the ball had just bounced differently a few times.

The O-line is rebuilt under coach Cummings and Tennessee grad transfer QB Quinten Dormady will be under center.

Coach Mac has the team's attention.

FIRE UP CHIPS! :)

Just sayin'...

You betcha! The two teams with the most raw talent, WMU and UT vastly underperformed and caught some bad breaks. CMU drew both East doormats in their crossover games and Miami squeaked by everybody, however, they won ALL their close games including a pounding of winless Akron by all of 3 points. Neither division champion this year was very strong.

On the flip side, this may help the MAC with respect to the bowl showing this year. Our alleged two "top" teams will be matched with other G5 conference champs and most likely be thumped decisively. CMU has already suffered that fate, with Miami awaiting such a disaster. In the meantime, WMU and EMU lost nail biters while probably the two best MAC teams this year, Buffalo and Kent St came away with wins. I'm betting on Solich to get a win or at a minimum keep the Ohio-Nevada game competitive and the MAC, with respect to bowl games looks pretty good this year.
