After all this, highlighted by the departure of Audige, it’s time to decide. Are we going to piss and moan over this sequence of events? Or, and this is my take, moving on and supporting our rookie HC and his efforts. It’s entirely possible that Coach Dane is ready, willing, and able to shine. He’s got my benefit of the doubt. What about yours?

Of course he has everyone's support. That has never been the issue. And everyone can and will move on. The issue is that this poor sequence of events was caused by someone who still has authority and as long as she has authority the expectation is more poor decisions will follow.

That seems to be the expectation. Hope it is not the case.

Coaching change arguably exacerbated what transpired in Williamsburg, but confluence of other developments contributed — AAU basketball, one and done, transfer portal, NCAA tournament money. Leads one to wonder whether future players will only bleed green and gold on one year contracts. Continuity will be harder to come by going forward.

RE: The bottom line
Big challenge for our new coaching staff is that we now have just six scholarship players with some of the
heart of next season's talent now gone. We've also lost the best high school player in D.C. who was slated to come in this summer.

Who will fill the seven open scholarships...will we get any filled....and, if some or all filled, what quality of player will we get at this juncture?

I can only begin to imagine what Coach Fischer and his staff are feeling this morning.

I think it’s seven players currently (at least for now - I hope the bleeding has stopped!) but yes, the task is front of Dane is monumental.

I'm hoping that somewhere there is a telephone booth left in the bowels of "The Hall", where the returning players, along with the coaching staff are being fitted for Superman outfits.

The days of one-and-done are coming to an end. Effective 2022, the NBA will, once again, let teams draft kids right out of HS.

My guess is that they will also draft into the G League. Makes total sense to me.

Little reality check, is Fischer even officially in the bldg yet? Last we heard from local media is his contract wasn't signed and he did not even have an extension listed on the athletics website.

It will take years for this program to even get close to what it was before being inexplicably blown up for no apparent good reason.

You now have seven scholarship players, and season ticket packages that were increased a year ago, so I would expect crowds to be worse than Boyarges level, and the product on the court to not be much better.

The idea that a little known assistant from a middling program in a mid-tier conference is going to come in and be Brad Stephens is just beyond absurd. Sure if he ever actually starts working he'll have the support, but support ain't getting recruits or winning games.

It’s not uncommon for coaches to not sign their contracts for weeks or months after they’ve started working. He’s working.

Owens, Audige, Milon, and Pierce. So upset about Shaver being mean, they didn't even want to stay around even a month after Tony's departure. Brown was clearly so upset by the rumors, he didn't even want to risk it.

AD Samantha Huge has really helped us achieve greatness. That NCAAT berth is a lock for the 2019-2020 season. We have soooo many starters returning, great depth, and how about the big rookie prospects!

Let's all donate and reserve our season tickets.

If Knight stays, we have a chance to be okay (while needing major step-ups and some luck to make any kind of run in the CAAT), with a complete rebuild starting in 2020-2021.

If Knight leaves, we will struggle mightily next year, with a complete rebuild starting now.

Either way, we are rebuilding within 1-2 years of perhaps our most heralded recruiting class in the last few decades. What a shame.

It's a top 5 Shaver recruiting class, but that's all. Not to say the rest of your post isn't correct, but it didn't need that exaggeration.

In anticipation of the "Good thing we fired the guy who had those kinds of recruits" follow on post, we also fired the guy who managed only 1 CAA regular season title with those recruits.

If you don't think this last recruiting class and the Knight/Pierce/Milon class are the two best of the past 30 years, I genuinely don't know which ones you're thinking of.

And we fired the guy before the latter got their best chance, and the former got *any* chance.

I really don’t know how any of us can get excited about a total rebuild from what we were expecting back. I’ll even concede that everyone was leaving because of Shaver and the change had to be made. I’ll agree with all the people that wanted change . I’m also willing to stop looking back but this new staff needs to give me a reason. What am I missing? We have 6 open scholarships for 2019 and still (to my knowledge) haven’t offered anyone in this class.

To all the “Shaver had to go crowd because of the players had heads down and bad body language and didn ’t like being coached by Tony” please tell me something to give me an ounce of hope for me to stop looking back of what we gave up for this change.

I would appreciate it if you stopped posting these types of comments. I would recommend Twitter as a nice outlet for your thoughts.

As for this board, everyone already knows samantha blew it and knows transfers and decommits came as a result of her poor decision.

If you feel extra creative Instagram is geared towards posting pictures so have fun and please use social media responsibly!

RE: The bottom line
Well, I'm going to continue to point out what an egotistical and unqualified disaster Huge is as OUR athletic director. Sorry if that isn't politically correct enough for some in this crowd. She needs to go. I've had seen enough to form my opinion in just about two years. Just wait until she wants to start cutting non-revenue sports and watch what happens. She's already ticked off a number of mid-tier donors (who may have become big donors without her mistakes and lack of judgement).

Do people really understand what has made our sports teams great over the last 30 or 40 years? I'll give you a clue......it wasn't any Athletic Director and it certainly wasn't funding. It is the coaches who dedicated large portions of their lives for the college, many with very little salary and support.

Al Albert - almost 50 years of service. Over 400 wins (most all time). Grew the soccer program from nothing to a National contender. Key fund raiser in AEF
Jimmye Laycock - Took Tribe football out of a down period to win the most games of all time (249). Football complex named after him
Cliff Gauthier - 43 years as men's gymnastics coach (856 career victories)
John Daley - 31 seasons, most all time wins in women's soccer (431), 22 NCAA tournament appearances
Peel Hawthorne - 26 years as field hockey coach, 275 victories, still working in the athletic department
Tony Shaver - most years as head basketball coach (16), most wins all time (226)
Dan Stimson - 25 years as track coach, 49 CAA titles

My friend the truth is not argued. We all know Samantha done darn screwed the pooch. We all know players leaving are because of her ineptitude. My only request is that you spare this message board of your same 3 sentences repackaged in a different used shoebox every 4 days. This message board is filled with the most dedicated of fans and your toddler esque rants I believe are best kept to the Twitterverse. You are far too bright a mind to subject yourself, and this board, to, as my grand pappy used to say, dribble drabble. And at the very least, if you most post, refrain from the unflattering sarcasm you deployed and rally the disbelievers. Start a revolution and use your artful words to inspire change! God bless Tribal, God bless William and Mary, and God bless America!

By the way, golden age refers to the Tony shaver era my friend.
