CAA signs deal with FloSports
Another interesting deal from the CAA. They will be the first conference to have a mainly OTT deal, with FloSports.

50 football games, 90 men’s basketball games, 50 women’s basketball games and 110 other events will air on the paid service every year for the next four years.

This is... interesting.

Particularly if your school only plays one sport in the CAA.

That $12.50 a month is the annual rate breakdown

True monthly is $30/month

RE: CAA signs deal with FloSports
Their site doesn't list the CAA yet. I looked at wrestling and they wanted a $150 annual fee which equates to $12.50/month. I didn't see anything about cancellation. I guess you could sign up for football season and cancel afterwards.

I don't see how this alienates fans. They are getting another way to watch. It's not like the CAA is pulling games off ESPN and making fans pay to watch them. Plus, if a major network wanted a game they could easily buy it from FLO/CAA.

$12.50 a month for CAA and ESPN + is $5 and has a lot more conferences and content. Which one would appeal to more users?

D.C. United has a FloSports deal and the supporters HATE it. First match was a technical nightmare and the barrier of entry is entirely too high — made worse by how people outside DC can watch on ESPN+

Unless Flo gets popular in a hurry, cuts the price in a hurry or does something else dramatic in a hurry, my guess is a lot of CAA fans will be saying

Yep.
FC Cincinnati also is with FLO Sports and the reviews are just as negative. The CAA could have done a simple search to read the horror stories.

Not bad.

-A seven figure deal with incremental revenue potential.

-CAA is allowed to keep local right for its game if it so chooses for rebroadcast by a RSN.

-50 FB and 140 basketball games is a lot of content.

-CBSSN is stepping up for them with a regular season linear package to go along with championship game broadcast.

Just think about the potential here for a G5 conference with a streaming network.

Never heard of FloSports before.

One time price of $150 sounds steep. At least DAZN gives you an option to buy a month for 19.99 but a whole year only costs $99.

At 12.50 a month I guess it means to cut costs you drop ESPN+. Its hard to justify paying for two sports apps.

And DAZN is giving you premium content. Paying more for FloSports for the CAA is dumb

Flosports is really bad. Like alienate your entire fanbase because your paying $30 a month to watch crappy streams load bad.

The FC Cincinnati fanbase practically revolted when they announced them as a streaming partner. This resulted in the front office having to come out and make public comments specifically on the issue with Flosports making concessions. Keep in mind FCC has a free local broadcast over the air for every game...

At least you guys still have the OTA broadcast. DCU actually replaced its OTA (most recently on the all-news subchannel of the ABC affiliate) with this Flo ****. How do you sign Wayne Rooney and then trip over yourself to throw up a huge-ass barrier to entry for those supporters he could be creating?

I hope the CAA knows what it's doing. If they're taking money up front over a lower-paying but more reliable OTA/streaming option, they could regret it in a hurry.

@markjburns88: Nugget from @SmittySBJ's newsletter tonight: @CAASports had interest from a number of streaming providers -- Stadium, CBS Sports Digital, Caffeine, Facebook Watch, Twitch and ESPN+ -- for its primary media deal (chose FloSports). Says "the streaming service to watch is Twitch."

Twitch is a niche model know but they handle hundreds of streams, some drawing more than 10,000 viewers, well. College sports is a logical next step for them, though im sure there’ll be pushback from older fans who don’t like the idea of their schools’ games sharing bandwidth (and getting beaten in viewers by) Fortnite streamers.

RE: CAA signs deal with FloSports
Apparently the CAA wanted the ability for schools to do their own traditional TV with RSNs, and the other options weren't paying as much as Flo was offering. I think the deal officially goes into effect in July, which might explain why the CAA is not listed on the FloSports website right now. I'm not sure what to think of the deal, and probably won't have an idea until the first CAA games in the fall. Based on the reviews for other sports/teams, especially DC United, I'm keeping my expectations low. At least we are getting paid though... I guess.

I think CAA made a decent move. Not great, but decent. They get paid and control their OTA/RSN media rights. Which other FCS conference can say that.
