CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports

I recall this being a very expensive steaming product. They did not list the price in the article or on the website which suggests that it's going to be a bad deal for the CAA and their fanbase.

Here's the link to the fact sheet that the CAA provided. It's a $12.50/month subscription. So CAA fans will pay more than double the price of ESPN+ for less content.

I'm a little confused. Will the free CAA.tv still exist? The article mentions some games will be on CAA.tv

That's not what it says in the CAA Media Information. I'm not saying that your wrong. But if that's true, the CAA will be in deep doo-doo for lying on their press release information.

I never liked companies that are not upfront with their pricing. Flo Sports does not publish their pricing and makes you sign up for an account before you know the prices. That's very low-class when companies pull that kind of stunt.

It is 12.50/month if you pay for a year upfront.

My point is that if that's the case, then the CAA is lying to its fans. It doesn't say in the press release that it's $12.50/month with a 1 year subscription. It says that it's $12.50/month. We as fans should make sure that the CAA and FloSports holds true to the pricing that they quoted.

I would guess it is the conference choosing a media rights holder instead of the free streaming. So now instead of free streaming we will have to pay to watch most games. And to JB's point, if that was the direction they wanted to go, why not strike a deal with ESPN+. Almost tells me that ESPN still does not want to deal with the CAA after being the main culprit in ending bracketbusters.

The caa is getting 7 figures per the press release.

Production costs might eat up some of that payout though

RE: CAA Signs Media Partnership with FloSports
$12.50 per month for a year is $150 per year. It doesn't make sense to pay $120 for four months if you could pay $150 for a year. To compare to another conference (that is better), the Big Ten charges $119.95 per year or $14.95 per month, both of which are cheaper than Flo if one month is $30. It says that Big Ten Plus content is available on Flo.

Hofstra charged $180 for Premium season tickets, which included 16 games. If you only care about one CAA team and only care about Men's Basketball, imagine season tickets being 20 percent more than being able to watch about the same amount of games online. One good detail is that CBS Sports Network will have Men's Basketball games before the CAA Tournament.

Will the CAA give the schools some of the revenue? For example, if this helps give Hofstra money to play to D.C. and bus to JMU rather than busing the whole way, it could help the athletes even if it hurts our wallets.

We will see. That would be a big change from Flo Sports current business practices. Using the link for DC united they will give it to you for $8.99/month if you pay for the full year upfront

Successful businesses change their pricing structure when necessary. This old overpriced model was out before ESPN+. I'm sure they realize that if they want to stay in business, they'll have to lower their fees.

MLS teams DC United and FC Cincy have to pay a full year in order to get discounted rates. I doubt the CAA will be any different. But we will have to wait. Im just very pessimistic

Per back of the napkin math, each school will need 560 subs in order to break even

Flowrestling also has the same type of situation - it's an annual sub that breaks down to $12.50 a month OR you can use the app on iTunes and pay 29.99 a month. It's a real sticking point with the wrestling community that if you want to watch a single event (and haven't been a subscriber), you're on the hook for $150. There are some Flo verticals that do have a monthly on-again, off-again plan, but as of now, it's not with anyone that I've seen.

For full disclosure, my Flo account is comped, but it still is a sticking point with consumers of their main verticals, esp. track and wrestling.

He's not factoring in sponsorship and advertising revenue that FLO hopes to receive. Now if viewership for most events is in the dozens, then I'm sure they're not going to get that much in that area.

This could also be one of numerous new products for FLO in attempts to really grow their national subscriber base.
