I asked that question not too long ago. The consensus was the pods are still the plan for next year, but the coaches are trying to urge the ADs to get rid of them.

Consensus is coaches hate them but AD’s are harder to convince

It looks like unless something changes we will use the new format. Here are some quotes from our new commissioner:

He “thinks” we’re going to do these things

That’s...not exactly confidence inspiring

It sounds like his recommendation is that we give this a shot. He also comes across like a "get data and analyze before making a decision" kind of guy.

The coaches are having buyers remorse. But I think the AD's are going to side with the Commissioner here. We'll know at the Spring meetings in a couple of weeks.

Seems to me it would be the AD's who would be worried about the potential costs of sending teams across the country on short notice. Many schools will already have to bear the travel costs associated with having road games in the conference tournament.

This system could be very helpful. Why not try something different? The old way surely only brought mediocre results. Also the conference may pay some/all of the travel costs from on campus ticket sales which could be significant in a few cases.

I think the AD's recognize the costs, but also recognize the fact that simply increasing our NCAA Units would make up much of the costs.
