Can bulldog have his screen name back?

Without any recruiting violations can’t you talk up Cincinnati Bearcats in Georgia? Supposedly you know all these players. Even if you’re coaching the young kids. I expect Them players to be playing for us when they get to that age.
Go look up Grayson high school commits. 5yrs ago told masses I had 5* nephew's in 2019 they laughed at me believing in gametime swindling lies. Owen pappoe 1st Rd pick. I gave him his nickname freak of nature in 7th grade. We did offer a kid named Jalen coach, he got in legal trouble and going juco. Best slot WR I've ever seen. Lol I ha one kid get invited to football camp, he wasn't go be difference on championship team so I didn't see fit. Basically we offer the 3rd string guys on championship team

Well let’s hope that changes. Brannen has said he would be coming for the recruits, so let’s hope he follows through on that and doesn’t sell us short on who we can get.

Corie Blount: Former UC Bearcats players at least deserved head coach interviews
Dave Clark, Cincinnati Enquirer Published 3:13 p.m. ET April 16, 2019 | Updated 3:14 p.m. ET April 16, 2019

Another former Cincinnati Bearcats player shared his thoughts Tuesday on social media about the search that resulted in former NKU Norse head coach John Brannen becoming UC's new head coach.

Corie Blount, a forward/center on the Bob Huggins-led teams that reached the Final Four in 1992 and Elite Eight in 1993, tweeted that two former players at least deserved to be interviewed for the Bearcats' head coaching vacancy.

Corie Blount
@CorieBlount
We are told once we put that uniform we are family. The university will be here for you. We had two former players that deserved to get at least a interview. Other schools are aware that they didn’t even get a look from their alma mater. Why?

Blount was a teammate of Nick Van Exel, an assistant for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies who reportedly expressed interest in the position.

Former Bearcats standout Kenyon Martin tweeted Sunday that he gave UC an "F+" for the hiring process, adding that former players were not happy about the hire.

Martin added via Twitter late Sunday night that "the process is not just about Nick Van Exel" and he's done with the topic.

Van Exel tweeted Monday morning that "what shouldn't happen is division" and suggested that fans and alumni "welcome (Brannen) and help him succeed."

Brannen told former players during his introductory press conference they are welcome back anytime, adding that this is their program.

Former UC head coach Mick Cronin, who lobbied when UCLA introduced him last week as the Bruins' new head coach for Darren Savino to fill UC's vacancy, also showed support for Brannen via Twitter.

I thought the most interesting tweet was this response personally...

Summer league is dead due to NCAA rule changes. I would be all in for midnight madness style event or alumni game.

Honestly would like to see a Crosstown Shootout Alumni game played in late October before basketball season starts.

We used to have Midnight Madness, dunk contests, etc...I miss those things and think it would be great for the program.

It seems like there’s more to it than just the Summer League, Midnight Madness, etc... it seems as if Blount didn’t feel welcome around the program like I would expect he should.

The football team even had one this year. Wiggins is a freak.

Yea, I saw. They also had former players in for the Spring game, set up obstacle courses for the players to have some fun, etc...

As I understand it, CLF was part of the interview process. I hope they impart a similar culture across all of UC athletics.

Reason #101 I'm glad he's gone.
I think Mick made it harder on himself than he needed to, but some of it
Had logical reasons.

Coaches don’t have near as many restrictions as in the past for watching their players in the summer. So he wanted them to practice against each other vs get in bad habits at Devoroes. This was well documented. He talked about it many, many times. He met them regularly in the summer.

Former players- I read on some fan site that he wanted to establish himself first and then former players would embrace him. I guess his own legacy. Plus as someone said : Corie was in prison. Mick I’m sure his reasons for who he wanted close to the program and who he didn’t. I’m sure he knows some of his players may be more impressionable by bad influences. We don’t know. Although most of those former players seem to be good guys.

Midnight madness - I don’t get not having that.

He was pretty successful here regardless of his methods. On to JB.

Who made the call on killing Midnight Madness? Was it Mick?

Midnight Madness was completely played out. No one came to the last one. The NCAA also changed the beginning of the season, which ended the midnight gimmick.

I don't think it is fair to say the default position of this board is to sh*t on players, but when a former player is critical of the program for not considering candidates that were obviously unqualified, fans are going to strike back. I, as well as most UC fans, love all the former greats, blount included, but that doesn't put them above criticism.

On to JB.

Corie was in prison around a decade ago. He paid the price and since then has been living a pretty decent life. I'm amazed that on a fan site the default position is to **** on former players.

I don't think it is fair to say the default position of this board is to sh*t on players, but when a former player is critical of the program for not considering candidates that were obviously unqualified, fans are going to strike back. I, as well as most UC fans, love all the former greats, blount included, but that doesn't put them above criticism.

You're right. It doesn't put them above criticism. So criticize the opinion on the merits. But don't take a cheap shot on the person because they made a bad decision a decade ago.

Past its prime? You'd know all about that.

WLWT had a pretty solid interview with Brannen that they posted to Facebook...best part of the interview:

Interviewer: "Everywhere outside of a few places have a ceiling, what do you think that ceiling is here.."
Brannen: After a glare/silence "My next job was going to be a place where I knew I could win it all. Right here."

Whether he ever gets the ring; or even reaches a Final Four, it's refreshing to have a coach who proclaims those goals. There was snickering at the introductory press conference when Huggins said he'd take UC back to the Final Four. It didn't take too long after that. Conversely, if the leader doesn't believe in that possibility, it's unlikely to ever happen.

^^^Im not sure Mick truly believed he could get the talent to UC needed to get to the final four and so I don’t believe he thought UC could realistically have the expectation to reach the final four (in this day and age anyway).

Just my opinion.

And that is in no way a bash on Mick. Sort of like Dantonio. I think Dantonio saw Cincinnati as a mid major/Mac level type program. Bryan Kelly came in and said we can win here. I see Brannen being like that.

The approach from Brannen is so different in so many ways than from Mick, and I love it. It really reminds me of Fickell. Time will tell if JB can take us to the next level, but so far he has killed all his interviews and press conference. I dont think we will be missing all of the Mickisms and always being the little program thar could. Brannen is just like, lets just win no excuses.
