I like his philosophies -- playing an uptempo, modern offense, using analytics, etc. I think he can coach, but ultimately his success will come down to recruiting and player development. I think this could be the reset our program needs after the Nevada loss, which was devastating in so many ways. Last season just never felt right to me.

I suspect that failure to recruit at the necessary level is the usual reason for successful mid-major coaches to fail when promoted. Brannen won't be able to just sign the same players at UC that he was looking at for NKU. I'm sure that he has "reach" players on his radar that will now become targets, and a large measure of his success or lack thereof will depend on his conversion rate at getting those guys signed and suited up.
