AAC/SEC Challenge
Per Jon Rothstein, select AAC teams will be matched with teams from the SEC who do not make the 10 team cut for the SEC/B12 Challenge starting this season. Looking at the already announced pairings, LSU, Ole Miss, Missouri and Georgia are available.

Rothstein states the goal is to match up more Q1 and Q2 opportunities so I doubt they will schedule the SEC schools with Tulane and ECU.

Cincinnati, Memphis, Houston, and Wichita State would be my choices to match up against those teams.

Looks like my previous post with a link of pairings was for last year.

RE: AAC/SEC Challenge
For reference, the bottom four teams in the SEC at season's end were

South Carolina 16-16 (79 NET)
Texas A&M 14-18 (80 NET)
Georgia 11-21 (115 NET)
Vanderbilt 9-23 (155 NET)

Assuming Cincinnati is one of four AAC teams used, I'd love to take one of these level of teams as long we still do more with the OOC schedule. Should be decent enough opponent with a decent NET ranking that doesn't hurt us, while at the same time "should be" a win.

It won't necessarily be the 4 worst teams; just the 4 teams that aren't already in the Big 12 challenge. Since those are announced I think two years out, there will be some good match-ups. As mentioned by CliftonAve, the available teams next year would be:

LSU 28-7 (16 NET)
Ole Miss 20-13 (42 NET)
Missouri 15-17 (74 NET)
Georgia 11-21 (115 NET)

So hopefully most years, 2 out of 4 of those can be tournament quality teams.

Those were from last year, so I don't know if that is what we'll get this up coming year. I've heard conflicting reports regarding the teams available. The other side of the coin is whether they'll actually take the top 4 teams/stronger brands from the AAC. For all we know they'll pick random teams (doubt they take the bottom though).

My bad, I must have misread your post. I wonder if Aresco could also pull this off with other conferences? The Gavitt games only take 8 Big East vs. 8 Big Ten teams, plus there's an extra ACC school left out of their Big Ten challenge. Definitely would like to see a PAC-12 challenge too.

Gotcha yea point is more that while we may not get matchups with top 10 teams, there's no shame in playing the teams left out of the SEC/B1G Challenge. Should be good for our out of conference. I'd like to think UC is one of the 4 more marketable AAC teams which I'm sure is what the SEC is looking for.

Frankly, some of the other schools that face scheduling issues need this game more than we do. We play XU, Iowa, Tennessee, Ohio State, and likely Nevada next year. Schools like ECU and USF have atrocious OOC schedules, which hurt our RPI and other tools measured by the tournament selection committee.

RE: AAC/SEC Challenge
I think this is actually a pretty big deal, depending on how it’s advertised, it doesn’t really matter if it’s only the schools not involved with the B12 challenge. Having the AAC name next to SEC is important and a big win for the AAC as a conference.

It could also open the door for another conference, say the PAC12 to decide they would be interested in an AAC/PAC12 challenge in the future and not feel like they are above the AAC (they clearly aren’t as the AAC was the better conference last year).

Obviously, getting into a P5 conference is the goal, but until then I like what the AAC is doing. Definitely ahead of all the other G5 conferences.

It looks like it will be an OK game, but I wouldn't want to be in charge of promoting it.

"Top of the AAC vs. Bottom of the SEC challenge"!

Except it's not top of the aac v bottom of the sec. It's likely top of the aac v random sec

I agree with this, but I also wonder if UC could make more money by being the buy game for some elite opponents than playing buy games here against the dregs of the NCAA in a half-full Shoe. Is it financially viable to ax a couple of RPI 300 directional home games and replace them with road trips to Lexington, Bloomington, etc? Just asking.
