Megan Duffy to Marquette
Coach Duffy was only at Miami for only two seasons. She took over a program which had lost 20 or more games for 4 straight seasons. She got hired late her first season , taking over a team which had every player returning from a 20 loss team and without recruiting a single player turned it into a 22 game winner. That team lost 3 important Seniors, and this year's team lost a star freshman to a knee injury in December, but they still won 23 games and finished #45 in RPI.

As a player, Coach Duffy won a state championship at Chaminade, then in college was the starting point guard on a National Championship team at Notre Dame. She played a couple of years in the WNBA and in Europe, then was an assistant at a couple of power conference schools. At Miami she was making $200,000 this year, her new contract at Marquette is $500,000 a year for 6 years. Marquette was the Big East champion and a top 20 team this season. Their coach left for Penn State. All I can say is that I thought she and her staff were the best coaching staff I have seen at Miami. We would have loved to see what she could have done with her own recruits, as there is a strong freshman class coming in, unless some of them go elsewhere now.

That's too bad. The MAC has improved tremendously in women's basketball, but that improvement will stall unless schools come up with the money to keep good coaches.

$500k is a lot of cheddar. Non-revenue head coaching spots in the MAC typically pay in the $125k-$275k range. I'd expect women's basketball head coaching jobs to stay in that range.

In other words, pretty much as it’s been in the MAC for the last 50 years. By definition, MAC schools will not be able to match the money power conference schools have to pay coaches.
