SEC vs. AAC Scheduling Alliance
https://www.cbssports.com/college-basket...20-season/

Based on the article, I'm guessing it will be the top 4 from the AAC. Maybe the four SEC schools not in the Big 12 challenge?

Next year starts a new Big 12/SEC rotation so based on the 2019 standings those schools would be:

Houston- Vanderbilt
Cincy- Georgia
Temple- Missouri
UCF- Texas A&M

Or if they want more ready-made matchups I could see Houston vs. Texas A&M or maybe Georgia, or UCF vs. Georgia.

That might not make the AAC happy, though.

That would make sense, Soobahk. The 4 SEC schools that sit out the SEC-B12 bb challenge, need to be the ones that participate in the 4-game SEC-AAC bb challenge. The top several AAC teams would provide quality opponents. I hope the games would be matched based on factors that include interest, geography, and standings/compatibility.

It's not a win for the SEC. It's a ploy by ESPN to generate hype for B grade games and keep all of the money in house for the Mouse. The SEC gains nothing by complying.

But they don't lose anything either, and it might help the bottom of the SEC ever so slightly in strength of schedule, which would then help the rest too (at least in the old RPI system, I'm not as sure about the NET).

RE: SEC vs. AAC Scheduling Alliance
I think it's definitely a network ploy more than anything, but I would say there's one benefit.

Assuming these games are the same weekend as the SEC/Big 12 Challenge then that's a positive for scheduling. As it is, the SEC teams left out had to play conference games that week and so the schedule was a little incongruent.

This way, the conference schedule can return to being more balanced.

They'll all want them televised and the payout for SEC-AAC games should be relatively equivalent to the SEC-B12 challenge games. Otherwise, it would be demeaning to the 4 SEC teams not participating in the SEC-B12 challenge. Top AAC schools could be as strong in quality as the average of the BIG12 schools. If these 4 games are not schedule the same week as the SEC-B12 challenge, and/or one more SEC schools participate in both the challenges with the B12 and the AAC 4, then it really does get unbalanced and sort of defeats the purpose of having the set-up.

Having challenges between conferences of unequal numbers, has a negative dimension from the start.

Now a SEC-BIG challenge whereby all from both conferences participate, would offer the ideal structure if matchups are done sensibly.

RE: SEC vs. AAC Scheduling Alliance
Wonder how many of these challenge games per opponent matches, are requests vs assigned directively by their respective conference offices, collaboratively?
