I like Bryce Drew but is he clean? And if so why did Vandy pull the plug so quickly?

Tim Miles is interesting as Nebraska is traditionally a graveyard but there's nothing in his resume to get excited about. Feels like he should have done more even at Nebraska.

I suspect that Bohn already has a good shortlist else he would have tried harder to keep Mick.

I'm a believer in going with a mid-major guy instead of an overpriced retread. I'm also a believer in localism, or at least regionalism, in these matters. The guy at NKU fits.

I'm pretty sure NCAA rules state you have to have a degree to coach.

Not an NCAA rule, but no self-respecting institution would hire a HC without a bachelor's degree.

I always thought it would be more of a school's call. IF that is the case, and they really wanted Nick and Nick really wanted the job, they can work with him to make the degree thing part of the deal if that was the sticking point.
I just looked it up, it is a NCAA requirement to have at least a bachelor's degree.

Why is it an NCAA requirement for a coach to have a bachelor degree, but 1/2 of the kids that Duke and UNC recruit only have to go to class for three semesters?

Why are people so quick to dismiss Nick Van Exel? He’s more than just a name and has been an NBA Assistant for several years now as well as a head coach in the NBA G League. The guy can coach, has obvious ties to Cincinnati, and should be able to bring in top level recruits. Needs to make sure we hire the right Assistant, but I think some people may not realize how extensive his coaching background is.

None of those look all that interesting. Forbes' record is worse then comparable coaches Brannen and McMahon. Miles and Drew were fired for good reason and I'd have no interest in a washed up coach from a bigger conference. Dambrot wouldn't be terrible, but again he seems like a worse version of Brannen or McMahon.

I'd say lack of college coaching experience and lack of a degree are the main sticking points. I'd prefer Van Exel over guys like Pitino or Matta. But I don't think he's all that realistic of a candidate.

If Van Exel worked, I'd be thrilled. And if so, can we nix Under Armor and bring in Nike with Nick?

Nick + Nike along with our history and new arena would ensure top 25 recruiting

Yeah, I imagine this is going to be a quick hire. I'd be surprised if we don't have a new coach by the end of the week. Even if he tried hard to keep Mick (we don't know how hard he tried), he still knew there was a chance Mick would go and should have been ready.

Not sure if NVE has his Bachelor's, but if he did he has 10 years of coaching experience. I would expect he would bring in a staff with some college recruiting background.

Nike is a no go--- we still have another 5 years on the UA deal. Btw, Texas Tech and Auburn are UA schools #justsayin

Do we even know that he wants to coach at the collegiate level? it's not for everyone...

I wonder what kind of roster the next coach will have next season. Are Jarron Cumberland, Nysier Brooks, and/or Tre Scott eligible for the grad transfer portal? Will Samari Curtis stay committed?

He coached at Texas Southern. Who says he doesn't have a degree.

I imagine nobody is doing anything until the new coach is announced.

What did we do that was dirty? He is making 4 million a year in California. Did you have an extra 1.8 million to throw in to keeping him around?

Scott Nagy (WSU/SDSU)

or make a big splash. Becky Hammons (Spurs)....UC might be too big for her, but a female coach in the NBA or D1 isn't that far away. X & O's she will be fine. Would need a big time recruiter and/or a former NBA player on her staff..maybe Van Exel.

well, he's actually making an additional $300K a year in UCLA after you factor in cost of living....and he was their 6th option or whatever.

That alone tells you, Mick wanted out.

Scott's twin sisters are coming here to play for the women's team. I believe he's the only one eligible for the grad transfer portal (though others might be able to get their release and not have to sit a year because of Cronin leaving), but I'd guess he's the least likely to leave.
