Lost All Faith in AD Huge
While I like the emphasis on winning and statements that we won’t shy away from ambitious goals, I’m throwing out a “displeasure” vote for the degree to which the tourney berth has entered the daily lexicon ever since Tony was fired. It was mentioned too much at the press conference. Saying it’s a goal is fine. But the obsession about it in all communications is not. Huge and the administration is driving that narrative (beyond using it as a reason to fire Tony) and I think that is misguided. Hopefully Dane can quickly shift that narrative as he gets his foundation and program in place.

In terms of financial investments, we did start offering COA for basketball under Huge. That's pretty big for a program like us

My impression of that emphasis is that the administration is using the NCAA tournament as a justification for putting more resources into men's basketball. I don't know if the financials or fundraising focus bear that out, but Rowe in particular seems to understand the return on investment that a tournament bid would have. Recent CAA tourney runs have galvanized the alumni fan base in ways we haven't seen before, and I would bet that the administration sees that and is focusing on the NCAA tourney as a way to take that one step further.

We should totally sign up to play in that NCAA Tournament. Can’t believe we’ve never filled out the entry form. We should focus on that next year. Yay. Go Tribe. This is going to be more fun than ultimate frisbee!

I hope your day goes better today. I would recommend looking back at billymac's guidelines for "should I post this?"

I appreciate your comments. Thank you. I don’t really agree with the suggestion that previous administrations didn’t prioritize or focus on making the NCAA tournament. And now suddenly we can replace a 33-year experienced head coach with an up and coming assistant coach, and by focusing on the Tourney, now we can make it.
I won’t tell you whether to question if you should post your thoughts or opinions. I enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts regardless of whether we agree on everything. I hope you have a great day as well.

I know I'm a broken record, but the point of the department -- the reason it exists rather than a club sports system -- is to advance the mission of the College. That's accomplished through raising interest and visibility, which in turn drives applications and donations. The sports that drive interest and visibility are men's basketball and football.
Huge will be judged by London and Fischer. If they succeed, the struggles of tennis, soccer, and volleyball won't matter. If they fail, overwhelming success by tennis, soccer, and volleyball won't matter.
Maybe that's not how it "should" be, but it's how it is.
Tank - Please forward this post to the JMU athletic admin.
Of course all sponsored sports matter, but not equally. Men's basketball and football steer the bus.
JMU fans argue about this all the time. JMU has a great G5 football stadium and is 1/4 through a $90M basketball arena yet the admin refuses to talk about conference vision.
I like W&M as a conference mate but the CAA as we new it died long ago if JMU's admin can accept that as reality or not.
W&M making a move would further expose the JMU admin's unwillingness to lead athletics outside of the comforts of the CAA.
In any case, W&M makes a good conference mate, brand, fan support, facilities, competition etc.
Good Luck

JMU is about the only reason I want to stay in the CAA. Maybe Delaware.

Notes from Turnberry. I like the new AD. She’s smart, ambitious, knows what’s up, and has courage. That’s all good!
