Everyone knows that the CAA and Patriot were 18 and 19 in RPI this season, right? That's one rating system over one season, but the gap is rapidly closing.

Surely we are not paying him the full 700k salary that was rumored to be available for a new coach. 700k should just about cover his salary
AND the annual payment to Shaver.

Oh, now RPI matters again? Ivy finished a slot ahead of the A10, too. No reasonable person thinks Ivy schools could compete in the A10, top to bottom.

RE: Dane Fischer to be the next MBB Coach
We didn’t get III. Good. I didn’t want him here.

We didn’t get the current Bucknell head coach, but got a former assistant. Good. Wake up call for all of you “Dancers” as to the attractiveness of this job.

We didn’t get a UVa or Duke assistant coach. Good. No more Dookie assistant coaches getting our head job. Heck with the ACC (unless we’re going to join them).

We didn’t get a P5 head or assistant coach. Good. Off the floor yet, “Dancers”?

We got a young assistant with a young family who appears to be a great fit. That is the only good thing that came out of this appalling spectacle.

Coach Fischer and family, you will not have issues with me. Welcome. Put down roots. Stay a while. Ignore the “Dancers”.

Just remember. You are now the latest in a long line of coaches at W&M who get to coach over-achieving student athletes on the one hand, while simultaneously dealing with under-achieving Administrations on the other hand. It makes for quite the unique brew!

Go Tribe!

I doubt that. Other than a couple tweets, there is no evidence that we were willing to pay 700k

... And stop calling me Shirley.

Fwiw, Bucknell was better than W&M in four out of Fischer's last five years there - often a lot better. Also Bucknell has been better than W&M the past three years, mainly due to the players Dane helped recruit. He was the main assistant in recruiting Mike Muscala, who is now in his sixth year in the NBA, and also the lead in recruiting several other 1st team All-League players. Definitely can recruit, but no idea how he will coach. Paulsen is very controlling and doesn't give much authority to his assistants.
Not a good comparison.

CAA >>>>>>>> PL

Nonetheless, he gets a fair shot as far as I'm concerned.

You can't compare it to how Bucknell would do in the CAA. They are in the Patriot and play the teams in that league. They were at the top of the conference, that's all that matters. And they have a guy who is currently playing in the NBA. W&M can't say that. Regardless, who's to say that Bucknell wouldn't have done well in the CAA during his time there?

Charlie Woolum was a pretty good hire from Bucknell. Apples and oranges I understand, but let's not blame Dane for issues that aren't his fault.

It's one metric over one year, but the point is that we're bleeding >s by the season. We don't get to sneer down at Bucknell anymore.

Bucknell has been to the tourney three times and the NIT three times in the last seven seasons alone. How anyone here can look down on that is beyond me.

Best of luck to your new coach. Hope he keeps you all a contender in the short and long term as this conference’s current chance of success needs you all to stay in the top half of the group.

Your AD seems atrocious though and dangerous for the conference, and for your sake hope it doesn’t turn out like our Cappacio/Mehrtens eras.

RE: Dane Fischer to be the next MBB Coach
While I am still angry at Huge's decision here, that is not because I think Coach Fischer will be an awful coach. It's because I think he is - at best - on par with Shaver (especially next year as it will be Fischer's first year as a HC). And we will pay an enormous cost for this move.

I now realize that I am even angrier at Huge for bringing Coach Fischer into a situation that is even more difficult than the one Coach Shaver faced (and I did not think that was possible). He inherits a W&M team with all of its inherent disadvantages that may also lose several starters and has many of its supporters infuriated by the firing of his predecessor.

Coach Fischer is walking into a storm (created by Huge), and he (and the team) will need our full support. They definitely have mine.

I just read on Twitter that David Cox was impressed with the hire and had nothing but good things to say about Dane. Makes me feel better about the hire!!

Fischer will be the busiest man for next several months. He needs to recruit Knight, Audige, JP, Milan, Loewe, Brown plus any new recruits plus any new transfers. In addition, he needs to assemble the coaching staff and move his family. I am glad he is young and energetic.
