Nov. 19: at Iowa State
Nov. 24: William Carey
Nov 27: Gonzaga (Atlantis)
Nov. 28: Seton Hall/Oregon (Atlantis)
Nov. 29: UNC/Michigan/Alabama/Iowa State (Atlantis)
Dec. 16: at Texas Tech

Man, this is the toughest OOC schedule we've had that I can ever remember. If we can win ONE of those games (not counting WCU obviously) then I'll be happy.

Yeah, that’s a murderers’ row. Win two and the hype will be through the roof.

Rumor that we are hosting Southern Illinois but not sure of a date. SIU has been 100 or so RPI/NET (86 in 2017-18, 143 in 2018-19) ranking team the last few years.

We have a new coaching staff and are down to 7 returning players from last year. Winning even one of them is going to be a tall challenge.

Now that's getting it done, and the kind of schedule that we need teams to put together consistently if we're going to be a multi bid conference. Can't beat them if you don't schedule them.

And with the new NET rankings, close losses also help.

Agreed, I would love it if ODU had that OOC schedule. Well done by USM

Atlantis is three of those games and buys are two. Which isn't to say they aren't going to have a boffo OOC SOS, they almost certainly will, but I also have seen Southern Miss posters frustrated that they can't get teams to come to their gym, which is why NAIA-ass William Carey keeps showing up on their schedule.

I'd like to get five big-time road/neutral opponents too, but I don't know if I want Newport News Apprentice to be on the home schedule.

No Feast Week for UAB but a pretty good schedule so far:

Alabama A&M
@ Kentucky
@ Texas
Memphis

Also supposed to have Illinois State on the books but no date on that yet.

Sure, with anything there's balance. At least they get the opportunity to play Gonzaga, and sure there's luck in getting selected to that field. Our preseason tournament has Nebraska as the best team.... ugh. I'm not necessarily jealous of the DII opponents at home, but certainly jealous of the road games.

That's not getting it done and a awful schedule for a team outside of the predicted top 3 in CUSA. This schedule means S. Miss will enter conference play with a losing record vs D1 schools

SCHEDULE TO YOUR TALENT because if we want to be a multi bid conference the top need to take care of business and the middle/lower schools need to win OOC games. Screw "close losses"

Yeah, but ODU had its shot at Atlantis a few years ago. Louisville/LSU/St. John's just ended up not being that great a trio and USM almost has to have better games with how loaded it is this season (for corn's sake, who's the "worst" team they could face, Bama?).

Also, watch New Mexico State be the best team in that tournament. Nebraska is the most prominent but the Mayor has a rebuild in front of him.

Southern Miss Basketball does not have the clout, luxury, nor the purchasing power to "schedule to our talent". We take what we can get. I honestly don't know how/why we were asked to play the Atlantis tourney but I'm not complaining, just wish we had a little more talent. However, we do host Southern Illinois this year but the date is TBD. They are a solid program, right?

Yes, S. Ill is usually a good basketball team. They were the Gonzaga of the east 15 or so years ago. The only problem with that, the east is full of blueblood schools and espn had no need to get behind them like espn did Gonzaga.

S. Ill made a major mistake...they paid a coach more than they could afford to eat, if he didnt win. He didn't and S. Ill went through 3 or 4 bad years of basketball. Killing any national hopes to build off a couple sweet 16 runs. But they seem to be heading in the right direction.

I understand scheduling problems but as a conference we need OOC wins...from the top down.

CUSA has a contract with Atlantis resorts, who operate and part own both the bowl game and the basketball tournament. We are contractually obligated to send a team to each on a rotating basis.

There is a very practical reason for William Carey, they are just across town. I know Apprentice is just down the road too, but sometimes you have to do things for community service reasons.

I have no issue with playing cross-town NAIA William Carey because it's usually brings a decent crowd (relatively speaking)...but this game should ONLY be played as a preseason exhibition-type game, definitely not 11 games into the season.

There ya go. Nobody in this conference should be allowed to play less than D1 as a regular season game. Exhibitions against D2 and D3, I'm all for it. ODU does it every year.

It's obvious there's a certain # of home regular season OOC games that our administration wants and are firm to. The fact that William Carey is one of those INSTEAD of it being an exhibition game just shows just how poor our basketball scheduling-power at Southern Miss.

Your baseball team is highly regarded, it would be interesting if your admin could agree to a series in baseball in exchange for home basketball games, similiar to what WKU did with (was it Wisconsin?) last year in football/basketball.

More times than not the baseball OOC weekend series against P5 teams are snowbird teams looking to come south to play games. I would assume they are not interested in basketball games in exchange but that's just a guess on my part.
