I really wonder if personal grudge against UTA was a motivating factor to coach at Troy.

Great hire imo.

I was skeptical on who we would get, but I’m very pleased.

Nope. I follow college sports pretty well.

He coached UTA in the Sun Belt every season since 2013 until this year. He was fired last year after his 3rd successive 20+ win season. It was panned nationally and even Jeff Van Gundy talked about it during an NBA broadcast. You never heard of him?

I watch Troy Basketball and was at just about every game as a student Men and Women but that's about it in the Sun Belt. Only other coaches I know/knew in the Sun Belt is Ron Hunter and Cliff Ellis, which are both dang good coaches.

Maybe it's because we only played UTA at home once every two years. The other two coaches you mentioned we play at home every year. That would make sense being a student and not hearing about him much.

Scott Cross is an excellent hire.

This is an excellent hire

I never would've imagined he'd wind up at Troy.

He arguably has the best OOC wins in the Sun Belt over the last 5 years. For a guy that has beaten Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, BYU, a 27-8 Akron team, and an unbeaten #11 St. Mary's just two seasons ago... this is a great hire. I'm surprised Troy snagged him before some bigger names did.

It's now been made official by Troy University. Scott Cross is now head coach.

He focused on scooping up the Dallas-Fort Worth area kids and had some transfers of local kids at bigger programs come back home. I would expect him to still recruit Texas a lot and find some assistants to help recruit the southeast.

Great hire, the Sunbelt just got stronger

He knows this level and it’s limitations versus expectations. He also knows the Belt. Last and not least UTA is a motivating factor as well. It may not happen next year but UTA and Troy games should be fun for a few years.
