How Liberty beat Mississippi State, how to beat VT
1. LU played smarter. MSU was taller, wider (except Baxter-Bell) more athletic and their guards were exceptional.
2. Inspirational play of Baxter-Bell. He simply played harder and inspired his teammates more than any other player on either team.
3. Caleb has his LU career game
4. Control of pace of game gave LU an advantage
If any of the above had not occured LU would have lost. MSU was a very good team but not as disciplined as LU
LU likely matches up better with VT than MSU. VT does not have as big inside advantage as MSU. But VT is a battle tested ACC team. The exhibition game likely helps LU more as what to expect from VT.
How to beat VT?
A. Again VT has bigger, stronger athletes. LU must play smart taking charges, good clock management and stay out of foul trouble
B. Like Caleb and MSU, who steps up with an exceptional game? Very difficult for LU to win unless at least two Flames play their better games, or again one career Caleb game.
C. Limit turnovers, control the pace of the game and hit the 3 point shots. LU was exceptional with it's 3 point shots. A repeat is needed again.

Just from looking at VT’s schedule it looks like they’ve beaten 6 tourney teams this year compared to our 2. (Quick glance so may be off by one or so)
