RE: Game 8: Maine
Maine's first CAA win. This W&M staff will not sniff an additional win this year. Only two wins against two very bad Patriot League teams. Too much talent returning from a solid defense last year to have taken the step back they have. Players continue to battle, and deserve a staff that will put them in a position to win.

Sorry to say that I believe we are seeing what we should have expected with this hire. With Huge's financially irresponsible basketball decision, we will not be in a position to make a change for the next 4 years.

Going to be even more open tailgate space and seats for URI and Towson.

RE: Game 8: Maine
The team was terrible last year as Jimmye's talent ran dry. His last three teams, after losing much of the championship 2015 squad, were woeful and it will take the new coaching staff two more recruiting classes
to right the ship. The defense returned Adkins and Murray, but little else, as evident by out total lack of a pass rush and the lack of team speed on defense.

Jury still out on Mathis...he is a talented runner, but can he pass? But he's also running for his life half the time. He showed some guts today in the fourth quarter and is a competitor.

Some will blame the new staff, and that's an opinion, but and it's my belief, and that of three former players I talk with weekly, that the larder was empty and this season is going as expected.

Am I disappointed? Yes because we we've had a couple of games we might have won and the staff has
made some poor game situation errors like at the end of the first half this afternoon.

Bur, cmon, we had three straight miserable losing seasons before this year and to expect to turn it around miraculously and give up on the coaching staff is in not comprehensible or realistic.

RE: Game 8: Maine
That was not a good Maine team that beat us today. I don't think Maine is very different than Colgate from what I saw. Let's just look at where we started the year and where we are now. We started off scoring points and moving the ball through the air in big chunks with both Mathis and Anderson. Now we can't pass at all and a freshman safety is one of our biggest offensive weapons. It almost seems like we are going backwards. Although Yoder can ball.

I don't buy the part about the defense returning nothing. Bubba, you forgot about Kieley, Johnson, Laster, Fowler, Parker/Parker, Bessant, and Hayes. All of them played a lot last season. Howard's defense was terrible the last two years. I have to wonder about the scheme or the coaching.

All of that said, it is a brand new staff and scheme on both sides of the ball. I'm not expecting much this year, but definitely haven't given up on London.

Think you forgot Kiely, Fowler, Laster, Jones, Johnson, Parker, Parker, Herdman, Hayes, Bessant, Purviance, etc.....We only lost Smith, Dulaney and Suarez.

Lack of pass rush is a result of the scheme. Adkins' stats are not on par with last year.

The staff has not improved what we had. We are very inconsistent on both sides of the ball seven games in.

Okay, I let the first one go because of repeat offender staus. I mean, he's a 2-yr captain, y'all.[Image: 15b5056f5d63a501a6f0762ab8690e3d.jpg]

The Elon’s whipped up on the gutty little Rhodies. Maybe they’ll be overconfident when we show up?

As I said before, this D roster is built for 4-3 and not 3-4.

RE: Game 8: Maine
1. Who knew that one missed/blocked PAT would cost so much down the line?

2. Chasing after that missed point cost us 2 more points. If we had those 2 points then the Tribe would have been down only 7 (with the ball) at the end. How does a HC with London's experience make those mistakes?

3. Two fumbles. Lost the turnover battle again.

4. Clock management was terrible. Definitely an ongoing trend. I repeat, how does a HC with London's experience make those mistakes?

5. Only 4 completions all game (all to the same receiver). What happened to Everson? MIA. If Mathis can't throw (which, apparently, he can't) then he should be a back or a receiver. Utilize his moves and his speed in the open field.

6. Dumb, DUMB penalty on the face mask.

London will probably be able to improve our speed and athleticism through his recruiting -- but then he will continue to blow games with his in-game mismanagement (which there is really no excuse for from a guy with his experience).

Very frustrating game, for sure, but the staff is owed 3 seasons. He won a NC at Richmond his first season but he inherited an all-star roster. He wasn't there long enough to know if he could've stayed on top with his recruits. 6-5, 3-8, 8-3, and 6-6 after he left.

All that said, I expected a better season and am hugely disappointed in the flood of ridiculous errors.

I generally agree with you but this is one of the most ludicrous statements I’ve heard on this board. Our defense returned (and still has) a boatload of talent. We run an awful defensive scheme day in and day out. The defensive line is one of the best in the conference. We have two of the top safeties in the conference. A couple solid linebackers and Corey Parker who is a good cover guy at corner even though he’s naturally a phenomenal safety. We constantly play our corners 10-15 yards off receivers, in zone coverage, and rush 3, occasionally 4 men. Today, instead of pressing up and bringing more people than the normal 3 or 4, we took out a lineman and put a fullback in as a standup rush end. Even with that we only sometimes rushed 4. I’ve said it before but I continue to read uninformed comments about the pass rush so i will say it again...generally speaking, the pressure on the qb in a 3-4 usually comes from your backers because the linemen are used to take up the blockers. We don’t rush the backers. So....

And as for last year’s team being terrible, that was because the offensive coaching was horrendous. Is it really better right now.

Maine’s defense was the worst I’ve seen all year. If we had played a quarterback that presented even a threat of a forward pass we could have run on them for 400 yards. But guess what? He wasn’t ready to play which is what i said earlier in the week and was jumped on for saying. They played defense in a way that adjusted for our lack of a passing game. They made an adjustment.

Spend your time blaming the talent if you want but you’re fooling nobody. Especially on the defensive side, this squad is as talented as any outside of JMU that we have faced.

All of London's flaws at UVA (QB instability, not redshirting guys who needed to sit a year, clock management) are still present.

Four CAA games and we have yet to hold an opponent under 30 points.

so much for the hyped Go-Go offense. I think we need passes to tight ends.
