TXST 4-2 in league play and 14-9 overall.

Edit: Make that 15-9 overall.

I don’t think it should be called a “walk off” when you were already up 8 runs and it just invoked the mercy rule

Great series. Troy is struggling this season despite tons of talent... just a young, inexperienced roster after losing so many veterans from a 40+ win team. Hoping we start to get after this.

I consulted the dictionary to get an official ruling

a run scored by the home team to gain the lead at the bottom of the final inning, thereby ending the game.
"I like it so much when we win with a walk-off"

So, Mr. Dictionary officially says you must gain the lead to win. Considering you won by 10, you most certainly did not "Gain the lead", so ergo, it is not a "walk-off"

HOWEVER, Mr. Dictionary probably never accounted for crazy college baseball get away day rules, allowing a 10 run mercy rule on the final day to help with travel. Giving more leeway to your original thought that one could consider the homer a "walk-off" as you "walked-off" the field after hitting it. (And ULM ran as far from San Marcos as humanly possible I imagine) So, you may also be sort of right

Thank you, I'll be here all night.

It could also be that you guys just happened to run into Coastal, and an Arkansas State team that suddenly decided to look like a real baseball team the first two weeks...

Troy will be fine. You guys have a wounded Cajun hobbling into Troy next week howling because some dang mountain man shot them in the leg because they got to near their goats. It is the decision you make when the wounded Cajun approaches that will decide Troy's fate this season.

I wouldn't presume to speak for X, but I believe that he meant "walk off" in the sense that Newman's Grand Salami ended the game . . .

Mr. Dictionary??? Let's use a reputable source shall we:

Merriam-Webster - The unanimous leader in defining words - says "ending a baseball game immediately by causing the winning run to score for the home team in the bottom of the last inning". Considering when you play just 7 innings, the 7th is your last inning, it fits the definition.

That's part of it, but we're struggling with pitching, injuries, and inconsistent hitting. Arkansas State has a good team this season, but I really don't think Troy should've been swept... at home... by the Red Wolves.

I don’t disagree. I’m just pointing out that We somehow looked better against you than coastal, so either we’re just amazing (haha) or you guys played really well against the #17 team in the country on the road.

Ark State looked pretty solid to me. Mark Calvi was not happy after any game this weekend, even the win, but I think you guys are pretty good. Like I said on our board, you guys caught lightening in a bottle this year with a very talented lineup, along with a few solid pitchers (they all looked like Nolan Ryan against us). You have a few guys that will be drafted this year in the top half of your order.

Nobody's asking, but UTA swept GaSt last weekend in Atlanta, 14-6, 4-3, 4-2.

Let's see if I can use this term again without getting chastised...

TXST and Rice go to 10 innings. Bobcats get two on in the bottom of the 10th and with a base open try to pitch around 3rd baseman Jaylen Hubbard. Rice pitcher grooves a 3-0 fastball thinking we'd be taking. Hubbard slaps it into center for a walk-off single. Bobcats win 7-6.

AState bullpens it for a game and destroys SEMO on the road 11-2. There were 15 pitching changes in the game (So, it took FOREVER). AState used 6 pitchers, and SEMO used 9, including a couple weekend starters as it tried desperately to keep our offense from turning the game into a blowout. Didn't work.

Now a nice long bus ride back to Jonesboro, and then 24 hours later, a 4:30 am departure time for beautiful Conway, South Carolina.

Runs the win streak to 4. Back to conference play with a trip to NC and a 3 game set with the Apps.

Dennis Martinez coined the walk off term. It's not meant for the winning team but toward the pitcher who have up the final run. In other words the pitcher walked off the field while the other guys celebrated. Anyway that's what was said in the MLB program about him.

RE: Belt baseball March 22-24
Calling the Cajuns wounded is an understatement.

Over the weekend, 20% of the roster (all of them expected to be major contributors), were injured.

Projected closer Austin Bradford will have Tommy John surgery.
LF Gavin Bourgeois, who hit over .300 last year, has labrum surgery on his shoulder today. Out for the year.
3B Jonathan Windham, perhaps the league's best defensive third baseman, broke his foot. Out for the year.
1B Daniel Lahare has a bad ankle. Tried to go on Saturday and was pulled after 1 AB. I'm guessing a couple of weeks.
With Lahare out, Handsome Monica is playing first base. Backup catcher Sebastian Toro, who was hitting over .300 has been out for three weeks with an elbow injury, which means the Cajuns are on their third string C. Toro could be available for pinch hitting duties this weekend, but he's at least a week away from being able to catch.
2B Hunter Kasuls had to leave Saturday's game with a shoulder injury after a HBP. He didn't play Sunday or last night and is day to day.

And, Gunner Leger has missed two weekend starts. If and when he returns, it'll be out of the bullpen.

I've been doing this a long time. Never seen anything like it.

Here are my thoughts on App.

MUCH better offensively. This team can actually hit a little. Drumheller is the real deal and probably will be FOY. Riley Smith is not a guy you want to run on. They aren't an offensive juggernaut but they are considerably better than a year ago.

The three starting pitchers on the weekend are solid. Bowman and Papp out of the bullpen will get people out.

From what I saw, however, the pitching staff only goes about five deep. That's the biggest issue facing the Mountaineers going forward.
