NCAA Tournament
I don’t remember a year with so many blowouts, especially in the 2nd round. Not a lot of exciting games thus far.

Catch UCI/Oregon tonight. 12 vs 13. Uci is a 5pt dog. If everyone shows up we’ll spank the Ducks.

We got schooled by a better team. Still at 31/6. A great season.

RE: NCAA Tournament
I would go with this: Power/Major conferences are well known. The mid majors are the conferences that have high quality but usually only 2-3 teams and can be looked at for an upset in the tournament about every year. Sometimes those conferences get at larges, but usually still a 1 bid league. Low majors, literally have little to no success and rarely, if ever pull an ncaa tournament upset. This is how I would label them (in order alphabetically no by status).

Major (6): ACC, Big12, Big East (barely), Big Ten, Pac 12, SEC

Mid Major (13): America East (probably closer to low), AAC (close to major), A10, CAA, CUSA, Horizon (barely since realignment), Ivy, MAAC, MAC, MVC, MWC, Patriot, WCC

Low Major (13): ASun (borderline mid major), Big Sky, Big South, Big West, MEAC, NEC, OVC (Borderline mid major now since realignment), Southern (recent investment could move them up), Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC (dropped after realignment)

I would be ok dropping the America East, Horizon and MAAC down to low mid majors and have the Atlantic Sun, Ohio Valley and Southern Conference jump up to mid major. Overall it seems like a decent split without putting too much thought into it (was not planned to be even on number of teams, it just fell that way)

RE: NCAA Tournament
Majors: P5 + AAC + Big East

Barely Tolerated by Majors: A-10, West Coast

Not Even Noticed by Majors Except as NCAAT Cannon Fodder: Everybody Else.

If I were to break it up more as you did, dan10, then I would move the MAAC and Patriot down one level and move the Big West and OVC up one level.

I think the CAA is getting closer every year to dropping down to the lowest level.

RE: NCAA Tournament
The money going to each conference/school for just playing in the NCAA MBB tourney is HUGE. EACH game is worth 1.68M paid out over 6 years!

https://herosports.com/ncaa-tournament/b...money-ahah

You make the Sweet 16 and the conference and school divide up about 5M over 6 years....In the CAA the school keeps 25%.

Fortunately for UVa, Purdue has a really smart coach who fouled to prevent the tying 3-pointer.

I mean, the odds of doing what UVA did is significantly lower than making a 3 pointer. Sometimes the basketball gods aren't on your side

Should have kept committing lane violations on purpose until they made the free throw

Or -- Purdue's Ty Cline could have made that second free throw with 17 seconds left. That would have given them a 4-point load at that juncture.

Still, there have been a lot of highly entertaining games this year. (Duke-Tech, for one.)

Not sure about a lot. There have been some entertaining games, but many of them have been boring blowouts.

I don't have the article in front of me, but it's basically a wash statistically between fouling and playing out. All things being equal I'd rather foul because good coaches can draw up plays to get open 3s off. When you're cursed, things like what happened to Purdue happen.

Must have decided to not watch this week. 03-wink
Nothing but great games since Thursday. I've never seen someone as quick, with the basketball as Auburn's Harper.

Close games do not equate to good games. Oregon UVA was terrible and Kentucky and Houston both played pretty poorly + Michigan St. blowing out LSU.

Agree the games this week were much better than the 1st 2 rounds and that all 4 elite 8 games were good (Auburn Kentucky debatable as both offenses looked awful except for Auburn in OT). But of the 48 games for this first 2 rounds, maybe 5 of them were good, entertaining games.

RE: NCAA Tournament
Another bump for Tribal. See Posts 1 and 70. Post 70 is talking about the UVa-Purdue game where Purdue missed a very late free throw that would have put them up by 4. Instead, with a difference of only 3, UVa was able to come back and force the game to overtime (where they won). You may remember that UVa then went on to win the national championship -- a championship that would have been extremely doubtful if Purdue had made that free throw.

So, yeah, free throws -- pretty important!!

Very happy to address the weakness on the OT thread. Tribe fans come here for W&M topics. I’ll ignore your banter on the general Tribe forum.
