RE: NCAA Tournament
I would go with this: Power/Major conferences are well known. The mid majors are the conferences that have high quality but usually only 2-3 teams and can be looked at for an upset in the tournament about every year. Sometimes those conferences get at larges, but usually still a 1 bid league. Low majors, literally have little to no success and rarely, if ever pull an ncaa tournament upset. This is how I would label them (in order alphabetically no by status).
Major (6): ACC, Big12, Big East (barely), Big Ten, Pac 12, SEC
Mid Major (13): America East (probably closer to low), AAC (close to major), A10, CAA, CUSA, Horizon (barely since realignment), Ivy, MAAC, MAC, MVC, MWC, Patriot, WCC
Low Major (13): ASun (borderline mid major), Big Sky, Big South, Big West, MEAC, NEC, OVC (Borderline mid major now since realignment), Southern (recent investment could move them up), Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC (dropped after realignment)
I would be ok dropping the America East, Horizon and MAAC down to low mid majors and have the Atlantic Sun, Ohio Valley and Southern Conference jump up to mid major. Overall it seems like a decent split without putting too much thought into it (was not planned to be even on number of teams, it just fell that way)
