Impressive MLB debut for him last night. 3 IP, 1 H and a save in Arizona's 8-3 win. Congrats.

Cool story and interview with him after the game. It might have been the first time in MLB history (or at least since the save became a stat in 1969) that a MLB pitcher making their debuts got both a win and a save in the same game.

Rendon is off to a fast start on the season - batting .429/.881/1.371 after the first 10 games (small sample size at all), with 4 HRs, 7 doubles, and 14 RBIs. Nice start to a contract year.

2 more solo homers for AR tonight. He already was leading the NL in the early season in batting average, but he's getting closer to Bellinger of the Dodgers in homers and RBI now too.

Pay the man.

I believe he's leading the NL in extrabase hits.

AR sets a Nationals club record with 10 consecutive games with extra base hits:

The quote in the last paragraph is how I felt when Anthony was at Rice - he was a joy to watch, and still is.

Yes indeed!

And as a matter of idle curiosity, does anyone happen to know whether “Nationals club records” include the Montreal Expos years?

Their official records do include Expos records, and in fact many are still held by Expos. Not sure about this one, as it does not appear in the listing of official records online, and the previous holder (Ryan Zimmerman) was also a Washington National.

Duffey got called up to the Twins and pitched a couple of scoreless innings tonight. Hopefully he can stay up for a while.

Bleacher Report has an article on Rendon:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2831...arper-gone

And it's one of the 5 links cnn.com is presenting in its Sports section.

UPDATE: That was as of Thursday morning. It's Friday morning, and now it's the lead article in the Sports section on ccn.com, with a picture of Rendon shown as well.

Rendon's 17-game hit streak comes to an end in a crappy way tonight as he has to leave the game after being hit by a pitch on his left elbow.

Question RE: MLB Baseball 2019 season (Rice update)
Boston's hurting a bit to start the season...

Brock Holt returned to Boston Red Sox from rehab assignment without being activated; a setback?

Quote:The Red Sox have returned Brock Holt (scratched cornea) from his rehab assignment but they did not activate him. That means he can’t start another rehab assignment for five days.

Holt started his rehab for Pawtucket on Tuesday. Position players receive a maximum of 20 days on rehab assignment. He certainly didn’t need to be returned now without being activated. That indicates this could be a fairly significant setback.

RE: MLB Baseball 2019 season (Rice update)
Non Rice-related but I thought this article was interesting since it talks about Fernando Tatis (Sr.) hitting two grand slams in the same inning 20 years ago (we've talked about Rice grand slams a bit this year). And how the writer predicts that will never happen again.

They claim the odds of that happening are 12 million to one.

Even more interestingly, Tatis hit both grand slams off the same pitcher (Chan Ho Park).

Back to the pen for now but one of Arizona's starters (Godley) has been pretty bad, so the opening is possibly there.

Arizona-Cubs game went extra innings and Jon pitched 4 scoreless. He left for a PH with bases loaded in bottom of 13th. Diamondbacks couldn't score so he didn't get 1st MLB victory. 4 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 walks and 4 Ks.

Jon sent back down today. I'm guessing they want him to start so he'll need to stretch out his innings. He'll be back up.

Question RE: MLB Baseball 2019 season (Rice update)
Quote:BOSTON -- Red Sox utility player Brock Holt will return to Boston for an examination Tuesday after injuring his right shoulder during a rehab stint with Pawtucket.

Holt, who has been on the injured list since April 6 with a scratched cornea in his right eye, will fly from Buffalo to Boston on Monday night. He went 1-for-3 for the PawSox on Friday night before a rainout and soreness in his shoulder put his rehab assignment on hold.

The shoulder issue is the latest setback for Holt, who suffered the eye injury when his two-year-old son, Griff, scratched him in the eye on Opening Day. He hit the IL after a week of trying to play through it and has been sidelined for almost a full month.

Holt tried various types of contact lenses with little success and had his original rehab assignment stopped after just one game. He was nearing a return to the Red Sox this time around with his eye fully healed but will now have to wait a bit longer due to the shoulder injury.

Duplantier got another call-up and his first MLB win last night. His ERA is still 0.00 (9 innings) with a win and a save now.
