rumor is the NIT selection committee wanted Memphis vs South Carolina 16-16 (11-7 SEC) at FedExForum...they liked that USC had a winning record in the 'mighty' SEC but they declined a road game :-/
San Diego was the back-up and I'm glad we won but SC would have brought out a REALLY solid crowd IMHO.
Funny ... I heard it was BYU who were offered and turned down a Memphis road game !!! Can't imagine why !!!
The one rule change I thought I would dislike actually turned to my favor. I like the resetting of team fouls at the ten minute mark and no one and one’s. It seems to improve game flow.

I still like the one-and-one in the game. I like the strategy and pressure that goes with it.

Paging DowdyPirate...
I had a 6 hour argument on Sunday in which he guaranteed NC State would draw at least 10,500 for an NIT game.
OOPS.
Maybe you missed earlier up in the thread? They sold out.
I just saw it. I guess we'll never know.
Well they do have a second round game...
The farther they get I'm sure the more the attendance will increase. So the original argument with a first round opponent against a mid major is kinda out the window now.

I hate all of the rule changes being used this year. It seemed to dare us into trying to shoot bad 3 point shots in the first half. The wide lane confused everybody and the foul reset was really stupid. The refs have a hard enough time as it is ... Hey I know ... Let's REALLY F with 'em !!!
If Texas had 1700 in attendance they must have been including the crickets. Kudos to Memphis for putting a good crowd in the stands. If it is like the last time we were in the NIT, most of the corporate ticket holders didn't take their seats, and as a result you got more of the rowdy diehard fans in prime seating. I wish we had ours at home, but I'm glad we are in the NIT, because when we were at 8-11 things looked pretty bleak. Furman will be a tough game if their three point shooters are still solid with the extended arc.
Oh, and Memphis, please please PLEASE go beat the Blowjays like a rented mule. The Fighting Sweater Vests deserve no less.

For comparison purposes (mainly courtesy of “Unionman76”):
Creighton 5,755
NC State 5,500
Indiana 5,431
UNCG 4,459
Colorado 3,091
Providence 3,057
Texas 1,739
Clemson 1,718
Davidson 1,647
Yeah, at the TX game it looked like a scrimmage where some students had just wandered in off the street.
I saw that and laughed. Don't matter, THEY'RE TEXAS. The big dog. The 800-lb gorilla...with the $31 Billion bank account.
Cougar fans laugh when we hear that Texas "owns" the Houston market. Remember when Texas played UCLA in Houston at Reliant Stadium (the Texans' football stadium) in 2012? The attendance was "reported" as 2,797...but was apparently much lower than that. Not sure why they needed an NFL stadium for that crowd, maybe Houston ISD's Barnett Fieldhouse (capacity 2750) was already booked?
But never forget that they "own" Houston market. Or at least they feel entitled to it...by birthright I guess?

the resetting of the team fouls after 10 minutes did speed the game up though - having a college basketball game with full media time outs finish in 1 hr 40 minutes was GREAT
