It was FedEx, get it right
Oh so the rumors that there was postage due are incorrect?

Does this refer to all members except for Georgia State and the non-football schools? Not at all mad if so, just found that funny...although I may be misinterpreting...

If Ga state hitches the wagons to basket weaving or whatever other than football they're gigging for flounder in a mud puddle.... Not at all mad if so, just found that funny...although I may be misinterpreting...

Take a wait and see but I agree with the tv deal set and membership issues stable for now need a salesman and internal improvement. Lord knows State needs to at least. Also becoming a multi bid league would exactly be the worst thing. I think the belt as a whole could benefit from raising our overall profile in all sports.

I'll attempt to make this real simple. Water needs to be clear to gig flounder or you just might gig your feet. Got it?

After looking up "gigging" (apparently gig is some sort of harpoon), your explanation helped. Thanks buddy.

Way too obvious you haven't spent any time in the country. Folks from Georgia at least at a minimum should know about frog gigging. Haven't heard of it for flounder but the concept is the same.

As far as his qualifications to succeed as a football administrator, I think it’s a wait-and-see hire. I don’t think his recent lack of big-time football administration experience necessarily means he won’t move SBC football forward. Yes, he came from spending two years at a non-football conference in the A-10 and has been AD at FCS Richmond (good football school for its level) and no-football American University. His A-10 bio also states that he has “senior administrative” experience at both Oklahoma and Vandy, which both play big-time football, and he has had two stints with the NCAA office. He also played college football in the Belt footprint, at Duke, in the early 90s. What all that means, I don’t know, but he has at least some experience with major college football and its administration. And from what I’m gathering, he was the basketball guy with the A-10. I like basketball, so I think that can only be a good thing for the conference on that front.

I think he has a lot of potential. Not necessarily a slam dunk or a hire to be overly concerned about right away.

I'm not so sure he was the "basketball guy". His job was described as being the Community relations leader for the mens basketball league, what ever that means. Given all the real talent in 10 other FBS conferences and 16 FCS commissioners out there, it appears to be a terrible choice. I wonder how and why it happened.

I had no idea that our university president, Dr. Mark Becker, was also the president of the Sun Belt. Hmm interesting. Did Dr. Becker have an influence on choosing the new SBC commissioner?

RE: SBC Hires Keith Gill as Commissioner
I am INCREDIBLY underwhelmed by this hire but the fact of the matter is the commissioner is a particularly weak office that gets way too much credit when a league is doing well and too much blame when the league is sucking.

The commissioner cannot stop a school from hiring a bad coach, can't force a school to find the money to buy a bad coach out early and can't make you pay competitive salaries.

You can "market" and "brand" all you want. The TV networks still go into negotiations knowing how many people watch the games over the air, via cable channel and by streaming and they aren't going to over-pay for the privilege because your slick commissioner every 8 years out-negotiated people who negotiate TV rights basically full time.

Conference tournament locations still come down to the willingness of the host site. The older members here remember the regular lectures from MTSU and WKU about how the basketball tournament needed to be in Nashville, near the basketball schools. Nashville would never bid so that idea was out of the door. Conference USA with it's "greater emphasis" on basketball has played it's conference tournament in El Paso (2014), Birmingham (2015, 16, and 17) and Frisco (2018, 19, 20, and 21) further from the "basketball schools" than the Sun Belt has been and certainly not in Nashville because the cities in Texas have made better bids except for the three year run in Birmingham.

Bowls come down to the sponsors and host committee and their interest. The Little Rock would have happened over Montgomery but for two problems. One Little Rock really wanted CUSA or AAC as the opponent instead of MAC and didn't turn to the MAC until late in the process and did get that smoothed over but Little Rock refused to sign with ESPN because ESPN wanted the game on the third Saturday in December and Little Rock wanted post-Christmas which was going to mean CBSSN. MAC wasn't interested but it's the same strategy Tucson has adopted and it's been good for their attendance.

You can market and brand all you like the bowls are going to come down to who makes TV happy and who can deliver the best crowds, otherwise you end up needing passport, or flying to Hawaii or Idaho.

The presidents and the AD's have far more to do with the success or failure of a conference than the commissioner.
