Toews, Gadsden, Simms, Estime, Linssen, Dodd, Boggs. Not ideal, but the 4 returners from last year are a solid core of guards/wing. Need to strengthen the F/C positions with a couple of grad transfers and JUCOs. The Valpo grad transfer that Gary Miller posted about would be a HUGE addition.
A starting 5 of below would be a solid group IMO.
PG- Toews
SG- Gadsden
SF- Simms
PF- Linssen or Dodd
C- Grad Transfer
An unknown grad transfer center? Sure, there are a LOT of those out there itching to go to a mid major team on a two year slide, punctuated by a last place finish in a pretty bad CAA.
Fine guys. I didn’t want to have to do it, but I still have all of my eligibility remaining. I’ll enroll as a grad student and start at C. Problem solved.

CG we might need you, but it is still very early in the transfer off season. McGrath hangs his hat on recruiting, so let’s wait and see what rabbit he can pull out of his hat before make your signing official.

I'm counting five open scholarships.
Cylla, Gadsden, Estime, Linssen, Toews, Simms, Dodd, Boggs.
SIX now. We have almost has many open spots as we have committed players. That's a lot of new faces and spots to fill.

RE: Transfer Updates
Best of luck Jean and congrats on getting your degree| Jean needs to find the right fit for him so he can be a 3 man like I think that he wants to be. And, I hope the best for him because he has skills. I hope that they he finds a team that will give him that. He may find the right fit and be in Match Madness Baby!!!!
Looking ahead, if need be at this point in time, Sims can man a 4 in a 4 guard look that will put Gadsden, Estime, Sims and the 5 in play with Kai. You have 3 legit 3 ball guys that will expand the floor if it goes down today. That's a problem to account for a coach because you have 3 guys other than the PG and 5 man that you have to account for at all times. And, Kai can shoot it too and will at a good clip next year with his form.
This is the new college game guys. The 4 and 5 man have to be decision makers (especially the 5 man) and allow ball flow back out and be selective to attack when they have an advantage. This is a tean game guys and if you want UNCW back in the Dance, understand where the game is now. We need this team to embrace getting stops and being happy for the guys that can lead us offensively in an efficient manner.

Wow. I'll bet McGrath is just as excited as you are about this "new style" of basketball he'll be playing. Next season can't get here soon enough!

Errrrmmmmmmm. I’m not sold here Bill. You’re gonna have to do better than that.
Stretching the floor is only helpful if you have multiple offensive tools. The reality that it took our guys about halfway through the season before any of our guards tried to penetrate worries me a bit with what you describe. What you describe, with this group in particular, tends to lead to 4 guys standing around the perimeter waiting for their shot then we put up a bad, contested shot and don’t get back in time on defense bc of the long rebounds.
If that is the route we are forced to go, these guys better do a better job of cutting, back cuts, and dribble drives.
Also... took a pic of this guy on my way home from work on an unspecified Naval base yesterday. Seems fitting...

Whatever guys. If you didn't get pissed off with some of the shots that were taken, then you know NOTHING about hoops. NOTHING. Do you guys even look at assist/TO ratio or even watch games? Do you see how winning teams play? They SHARE the ball and defend.

We were pissed about shot selection, defense, dribble penetration, three point shooting and more. What makes you think shot selection will improve because Cylla is leaving? Is it your opinion he saw that McGrath was going to put Sims at the 4 and him on the bench, so he left? Was this a plan by the coach to improve the offense? Even if you think this the "new" college ball, does McGrath agree?

Cylla took a lot of contested shots every game. When he was on he scored 20+ points, but when he was off it really hurt our offense. He was also last on the team who played regular minutes in assists.

Bill, my poke at you was not about what you had to say needed to be done, but rather at the fact that you were discussing it in a tone that brushed off the elephant in the room - namely that we just lost HALF of our basketball team!
I know you are a glass half full guy , so maybe you are a team half full guy as well...but we have had 5 guys quit this year (two during the season, three post season), plus the graduating players.
I guess if one thinks the team's problems are all on the players, then the sooner you get run them off them the better . This is all happening in the context of it still being an open question whether Coach McGrath is the future of UNCW basketball or the Second Coming of Benny Moss. To me this does not look like anything close to a positive development.
One way or another , at this point this is totally on CB McGrath. He has nothing but his players on the team, and a fistful of scholarships to go get more. I really hope he is successful.

Didn’t want him transfer per say, but he took a lot of contested shots and played bad defense on a bad defensive team. Toews, Gadsden, and Simms are the nucleus for next year. Build around those guys with Linssen and Dodd, Estime as a back up guard while hopefully signing a JUCO and grad transfer.
This is not football, in basketball you need a solid starting 5 and one or two guys to contribute off the bench.

I think Estime is part of that nucleus. And the coaching staff is high on Boggs' potential. And, while I wish Fornes would have stuck it out, my biggest disappointment is Cylla. Even though he got lost on the court sometimes, he is still an athletic big we needed.

33 and I are on the same page here. Exactly where I’m at with this combined with 70’s concern.
Just remember, it’s entirely possible to understand and know the game of basketball but have differing opinions. There’s not anyone on our forum that I think doesn’t know the game. Sure, some know the game more intimately than others, but we all know the game to a degree. No need to assault topic intellect when making our points, IMO.
