Speaking of probability and predictions, I like the ranking UMKC rigged up for themselves to have themselves declared the number one Business School in the world. Any prediction on how that worked out?

https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/ar...11395.html

You do understand that NMSU, Seattle, and UMKC are the rich schools in the WAC. GCU being the billionaire and then there is a big drop off. UMKC is the only school that rather build a $50m conservatory of music and dance than a sports arena in WAC.

I just laugh when they say UMKC budget crisis on the board. Obviously never seen the cranes on campus. They just don't spend money on athletics.

Athletic budget crisis at UMKC isn't fake news. When the school is looking at one time to drop to D2 you have issues.

It's total Fake News. Its all about priorities. They have $195,000,000 endowment. More if you include they are backed by the University of Missouri System. They could run athletics at a huge loss if they really cared.

They are one of the few schools in WAC that could add Football if they wanted and Mizzou would let them.

Utep Endowment- 241m
NMSU Endowment- 214m
UTSA Endowment- 162m
Texas St Endowment 187m
SJSU Endowment-150m
UMKC Endowment-195M

Believe or not those are UMKC peer universities. The administration only considers those on an Academic and not athletic basis.

Lmfao, holy crap. I barely found out this school existed a few years ago, little did I know all their fans are delusional. Thankful we only have roo in here and not all these jokers preaching that crap.

And that thread was last year. Here’s one from this week. They still believe they’re going to the American.

Those guys must be smoking some good stuff or very bad stuff. That message board is straight comical. I wish more of them would post on here just for laughs

RE: Kareem Richardson fired
Hi! Non-bickering UMKC fan over here... So, I knew this was inevitable because they got a new AD. I'm not surprised. However, based on paying attention and being a casual fan of UMKC for 20-25 years, I'm not sure that they can do any better. Despite their record, I do feel that UMKC got better this year than last. Also, UMKC is only losing 1 senior and returning a lot of the team. I feel they can make that improvement for next year. Perhaps it's just wishful thinking, but I would get rid of Kareem next year and do a complete reset as opposed to resetting this year with brand new players.

Their new AD was a solid hire, so hopefully he will reciprocate and get a solid coach. However, Kareem was one of the best assistants in the nation and had just helped Louisville to a National Championship (at the time). So, it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

Whom do you see as a potential candidate? Salary wise, UMKC seems to be on par ($240-$280k) with some of the other WAC schools. I'd love to hear your responses.

I have no idea, but Northwest Missouri State head coach Ben McCollum might be a nice place to start. His team is 32-0 and #1 ranked in the country at the D2 level. Dr. Brandon Martin has set a goal of being a top 100 basketball team. UVU, which has the same basketball budget of $1.8 million that UMKC has, has achieved a top 100 ranking the past two seasons. They were #89 in RPI in 2018 and they are #90 in Net ranking this season and #59 in RPI. So it can be achieved on your current basketball budget.

UVU is paying Mark Pope a base salary of $200,000. Then there are a number of incentives to increase his salary:

https://www.ksl.com/article/46345932/500...w-contract

Some are easy to attain, some a little more difficult. So you can find a good coach in your current salary range. Dr. Martin played his college ball and at USC and played a little pro ball, so he probably has a good understanding of what is needed at UMKC.

The next coach not only has to recruit the Midwest well, they need to be able to recruit in places like Texas and the West. Outside of Chicago, UMKC is not playing conference road games in the Midwest and should be at least attempting to see what under-the-radar recruits they might be able to steal out of these areas.

On Kareem Richardson, he walked into a bad situation and he could not make it better. The previous AD was in over her head and the budget cuts just made things more difficult. Richardson can obviously coach. He needs to find the right situation for himself. Dr. Martin was always going to hire his guy as the head basketball coach. He wasn't going to sink or swim with Richardson.

Yes the Bakersfield call was the reason they starting right up the paperwork

Those two calls don't happen, he is still there one more year.

I think the roos can find guards and wings in midwest throughout the programs history. They need someone like Marvin who can find the hidden big man that others have overlooked.

You need to take all that money and pay off the WAC refs so you can compete with NMSU.

I don't know who "Marvin" is, but about 90 miles to the north there is a really good D2 coach:

https://www.kansascity.com/sports/colleg...52509.html

McCollum decided a personal philosophy was going to be an emphasis on areas not determined by luck. Transition defense and rebounding drills would take up a majority of the team’s practice time. Taking care of the basketball and putting up good shots on offense became main points offensively. “The only thing you really can’t control is officiating and shot-making,” McCollum said, “but we control everything else.”

Sounds like the type of coach you guys need. Their scoring defense is #3 in the country and their scoring margin is #1. Putting an emphasis on rebounding is definitely something UMKC should look into. Emphasizing the things you can control and not whining about the refs sounds like something you guys could use more of.

I agree with you UMKC will make the CBI one day, all that needed was 13 wins instead 11 and they would have played a team like UVU. 05-stirthepot

30 years 30 years we haven't made it to a conference tournament final. No coach of ours has ever been a D1 coach anywhere else after.

CSUB comes in makes tourney and switches conference. GCU comes in makes final first 2 years eligible. I don't know anymore.

And out of all teams, Chicago St. ruined our best season on a miracle at our highest attended game ever

We will make it to NCAA before GCU I promise that 05-stirthepot

A couple of other possibilities for head coach at UMKC could be Paul Lusk and Chris Lowery. Lusk spent seven seasons as head coach at Missouri State and Lowery spent eight seasons as head coach at Southern Illinois. Lusk is currently an assistant at Creighton and Lowery is an assistant at Kansas State.

Would they want the job and be passionate about the challenge of being the 1st coach to win a conference title, a post-season tournament (CIT, CBI, NIT?), getting an NCAA bid and winning a game?

Or would they take the job imagining that it might be a useful stepping stone to getting them to where they really want to be?
