RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
A construction crew severed the internet fiber cable to the UD south campus (sports complex) at least an hour before the game. I was surprised that one broken cable could do so much damage including keeping an entire game from being televised.

Probably the construction going on at the football "stadium" next to the Bob.

That's amazing.

I guess we saved ourselves getting whacked by UCONN because that's who Towson drew as a 15 seed. We probably would have gotten a better seed...but not much better.

Friday's ESPN Bracketology had Drexel as a 13 seed. I was actually hoping that James Madison would get in. You'd think that a team with an RPI in the 30's in the 10th ranked conference should get in.

If you thought that, then you have not paid much attention to women's basketball or the selection process. Mid majors rarely get at large births. Mids who are ranked generally still find themselves as 10 or 11 seeds. As sad as it is, they were still not an at large team prior to the Hofstra loss, that loss would have been enough to eliminate them had they been nearly undefeated. Even JMU fans knew prior to the Hofstra loss their at large hopes were pretty distant.

You are correct, and have confirmed why the NCAA Tournament (M&W) is a complete joke and no longer earns my attention. By saying "you'd think", I'm referring to a fantasy system that actually makes sense and isn't corrupted by money.

Baseball season can't start soon enough.

Women's is more corrupt than the mens, because there are so few draws, they have to chase big draws every single time. In addition the parity in the women's game is still poor so it makes those decisions even easier. However all sports are driven by money, kind of hard to ignore that.

At least pro sports try to be fair. Here's the equivalent of college basketball to what it would be in MLB....

Orioles 90 Wins
Red Sox 88 Wins
Yankees 87 Wins

MLB decides to let the Red Sox and Yankees into the playoffs instead of the Orioles because they'll draw better TV ratings.

That is not even close to accurate as they are in the same division and play damn near the same schedule.

A more slightly closer equivalent would be

Orioles 90 wins
Cubs 83 wins
Dodgers 82 wins

and choosing the Cubs and Dodgers for the LA and Chicago market. Obviously the above is not realistic due to two different leagues, but the point being they play drastically different schedules. The problem in basketball is there are too many teams and judging each on merits is difficult due to the imbalance. That balance is not going to get closer either, it is only going to keep growing more unbalanced.

But the biggest issue that I have with CBB is that they have these formulas that are used to help determine which teams are better, but they are completely ignored. The RPI shows that JMU is much better than Indiana, but the committee chose Indiana anyway. If the NCAA wants to be fair, then they need to stop with this committee BS, and just use a formula. The committee should be used for seedings and matchups only. It can be any formula, and they can formulate it however they want, as long as everyone know what the formula is in advance.

RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
Sure. We would all like to know what the moving target is in any given year, but that wont happen for obvious reasons. However RPI for womens or NET for men has ALWAYS been a sorting tool, not a tool to make decisions based off of. That is where other tools like SOS, NCSOS etc come into play. JMU had a high RPI with no supporting cast behind it. RPI is flawed but these resumes are not close.

JMU- SOS 149, best win was us at 65 (x2), no top 100 wins out of conference. Best win out of conference is St Johns at 117 and Dayton at 119. That is not tournament caliber. Worst losses to #203 and #229

Indiana- SOS 40, best win was #7 Iowa, and UCLA #35 out of conference. They have 4 top 100 RPI wins out of conference and 5 top 100 rpi wins in conference. Worst losses to #207, #116 (x2)

For those who missed, Towson did not quite get it done in the 2/15 game against UConn. Down 64-24 at half, they stormed back for a 110-61 defeat, only being outscored by 9 in the 2nd half.
