In game 1, #9 Hofstra barely held on to beat #8 Elon 77-75. The irony is that the team that was the last team standing the past two seasons is the first to be eliminated in 2019. Hofstra plays JMU tomorrow, which will be a cakewalk for JMU.

I'd love to be making the trip down to UD on Saturday. The draw isn't great because we'll have to get through 2 bigger/athletic teams just to get to JMU. It's up to our role players especially in the post. We can't play scared of bigger players like we did down at JMU last week.

W&M took down COC by 20 so Drexel will face W&M tomorrow at 5. There no such thing as an easy draw in the CAA Tournament. W&M is physical, but Drexel clearly has the rest advantage on them. And Drexel beat a very physical Towson team by over 30 on the road the other day, so that's not going to matter them.

RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
So we just witnessed the biggest upset in CAA WBB Tournament history as JMU falls to #9 Hofstra this afternoon.

Drexel now goes from "Well we'll do our best but we probably won't be able to get by JMU", to "Holy Crap, we might be able to win this thing".

This obviously changes the entire dynamic of the tournament for EVERYONE who is still left. Drexel might be considered the favorite now, but all of the rest of the teams now probably think that they have a chance, and it will not be easy for Drexel.

Despite watching just about every Drexel WBB game this year, I won't be available to watch tonight's game, since I'll be helping out at my daugther's school show tonight and tomorrow. I might not even be able to see the score until 9:00 tonight since her school was built like a prison and the data access is terrible. Hopefully, dan10 or somebody is is available to provide a great recap.

What an upset. Hope we are not scoreboard watching and have the same fate happen to us. This was already a tough game, despite W&M having played yesterday, now the pressure is really on us now that the clear top team has fallen. I am even more scared about this game now, to be honest.

It is worth noting that JMU played nearly the whole game without Smalls and Barrier. Those are two big pieces to their puzzle. It's still a big surprise regardless, and while the path is there for Drexel, their road will not be easy.

Absolutely. That is like us losing Bailey. There are not many teams we beat without her. Hopefully they get healthy for the WNIT.

I had to come on here and check to see if I saw the score right. It's nice to see a big upset in a CAA Tournament...men's or women's. I can't remember a bigger one. Hopefully the trend doesn't continue in an hour or so.

However...for argument's sake...it was a pretty big deal when we knocked out ODU. Somebody had to do it but it was a big deal at the time.

The # 1 seed has never lost in the Quarterfinal round. So I don't think anyone has seen a bigger upset before!

Towson is sitting pretty right now on that side of the bracket. The other will be a dogfight to get to the championship game.

We made a nice little run in the second quarter, currently up 43-30 at the half. Shooting very well right now.

RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
Just got back from the game. DU wins by 11 but held approximately a 16 point lead throughout from mid -3rd Qtr. until under 4:00 in the 4th when the result wasn't really in doubt. Final was 71-60.

Physical game, Metzel was a beast. Close 1st Qtr. - DU began distancing themselves in the 2nd Qtr. Went into Halftime with a 13 point lead at 43-30. Highest DU halftime total this year.

Played well overall, a few too many TOs, but DU also forced a lot of TOs as well.

Good turnout alums/family/staff considering a midweek 5:00 start. Believe this is exam week for students. We picked up some UD fans rooting for us after Towson knocked them out in the 2:30 game.

Back down for tomorrow's 4:00 start and maybe the Towson/Hofstra 1:00 game.

Thanks for the recap. I never would have guessed that 13 at halftime was their biggest lead all season, especially since they had quite a few blowouts. I felt confident that we weren't going to see a repeat of last week with W&M and they would take care of business, which they did. Last year, Drexel blew out UNCW, but they seemed to get really tired fast against Delaware and especially against Elon. Hopefully they've worked on keeping their legs strong for the back to back and their shooting won't suffer like it did last year.

I'll be home tomorrow to watch the 1:00 game, but I'll be missing the Drexel game again.

Not the 13 point lead at Half, but the 43 points. So....Hofstra/Towson and NU/DU. Huh......Go old America East!

Got it. Yes, that was very impressive considering they've had whole games where they didn't score 43.

Drexel has had their number with Northeastern lately, which also scares me a bit. NU didn't play well for most of the CAA season, but they apparently got their mojo back that they had at the start of the season, as they are on fire lately. The #6 seed is meaningless.

It's going to be a tough, hard-fought game that will likely go down to the final possession.

RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
Congratulations on the win over the Tribe! The way the Dragons were shooting 3-pointers in the first half (from way, way out) gave me deja vu of the Tribe's Men's loss to Delaware in the men's tournament.

I'll root for the Dragons against NE or Towson. I would probably have to go with the big underdogs if Hofstra faces you in the finals (just for the sake of the big cool upset; it wouldn't matter which team gets beat in the NCAAs, anyway, since the CAA normally gets seeded against some powerhouse).

RE: 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championships
Only caught a few minutes to open the second half but we looked good. We showed a transition game that was new and welcomed. Finding ways to get easy buckets is important for this team, since we dont typically shoot well. This game had scared me, so glad we took care of business, especially on the heels of JMU going down. That was a potentially easy place to get overly confident.

NU definitely wont be a walk in the park, but I would rather face them than UNCW. So I felt it broke our way. We already knew our half of the bracket was the more difficult one, today will be our time to truly show if we belong. 2nd game of a back to back starts to show your depth and abilities when shots stop falling. It does suck that Towson gets a relatively easy walk to the finals, but thats how it goes. Unless we focus on Northeastern, what Towson does is meaningless.
