This needs it’s own thread.
To be eligible for this NCAA statistical category, a player must play in 75% of her team’s games.
I remember we ran the numbers last month and figured Mulkey would become eligible a game or two into the tournament.
I don’t have time to run the numbers but how are we doing on this? I put it in as a bullet point for our NCAA seeding resume in another thread. Drives home the point that our two early losses were so-called ‘good losses’ because we were without the nations (potential) leader in blocks per game

She wouldn't be leading the country even if she was eligible right now. Channon Fluker of CSUN is averaging 3.67 blocks per game. Mulkey is currently at 3.6 blocks per game.

But if she needs to play in 75 percent of the games, she needs to play in Rice's next 4 games.

Blocks will also never do Mulkey's defense justice. If teams ran traditional offenses against us, she could block 6+ per game easily. You can't quantify teams running away from her.

Absolutely true.

I think Mulkey's most impressive stat on the season is her 23 fouls (in 20 games). That alone should tell you that teams are just afraid to go inside against her. You can look at Baylor's stats - a team that features two amazing inside players in 6-7 Kalani Brown and 6-4 Lauren Cox - and you'll see that they have 66 and nearly 50 fouls.

Now granted we haven't gone against many (or maybe any) teams with great inside games, but we may finally start to see some larger teams in the NCAA's. Rice has stayed out of foul trouble as a team the entire season; it will be interesting to keep monitoring the foul stats in the postseason.

Ok then 4 bpg over next four games should project to a 3.83 average.

With the potential for three conference tournament games that means we need one additional postseason game to make her eligible.

I think the 4 block per game average is within her reach.

Fluker had 2 blocks tonight (but her team lost so that's probably their last game of the season). It's too late for me to check and see her current average but it's probably still a bit ahead of Mulkey.

Well, if she didn't fall below Mulkey then we just need Mulkey to pass her!

ETA - also Mulkey needs 5 blocks the remainder of the tournament to tie the conference record for most blocks in a tournament (6 to get a new record). I believe the individual game record is 9 - and 6 would tie for 3rd best in a single game?

You’re right. Rugby’s fairer in that (unlike playing against Rice’s defence) Rugby teams can usually get a clean look at a goal.

3.87 blocks per game, for the record versus 3.61 for Fluker.

The more important number is 23 starts out of 31 total games for .742 24/32 would indeed make 75%, and with zero blocks, she would have .370 blocks per game. By contrast, she will need 24 more blocks to get the total blocks for the season.

FYI, Fluker is 6'4" with an impressive resume...
